Warning: The Next Wave Down Starts Now

You should get "Hooked on Phonics" for Christmas so you can learn to read better. I didn't say I can't lose, I said I can make money in any market. If I make a bad decisions yes I can lose money in any market just as easy. The market is what it is and it is not doom and gloom. The market having...

Warning: The Next Wave Down Starts Now

Oh no the sky is falling, the sky is falling! When I read this all I can picture is an old man walking the streets of New York wearing a washboard sign that says: "Armageddon is upon us!" on the front and "Repent for the end is near!" on the back. I trade options so I really don't care...

    Another newbie here....

I hate to say it but if you try to trade anything in the financial markets, with no specific detailed plan of action based on at least minimal fundamental knowledge of the general markets as well as the instrument you plan to trade, you might as well just mail your paycheck to Wall Street and be...

Good luck. Keep us posted with how you do.

What kind of effort is needed

I read this after my previous post. Here is a suggestion to hopefully help with your discipline. Make a checklist of your entry criteria, whatever you use. Make a separate checklist for exit criteria (both for profit and for loss). Then hang them where you can see it every time you trade. Do not...

What kind of effort is needed

I would say based on this you already have a fairly decent system in place (at least a good start at one) there one major thing to tweak immediately. The 29 trades between (4.9% and neg 4.9%) pretty much cancel each other out. If you can eliminate those 11 big losers you will start to build your...

Help with IB wont execute my limit option spread order..screenshot

Options are not quite the same as stocks. The bid/ask of options fluctuate based on the underlying stock so even with zero volume you will still see bid/ask that are fluctuating. Just none of them are changing hands. Options can get dangerous when trading contracts that have low volume.

Help with IB wont execute my limit option spread order..screenshot

Ok I don't think the issue was IB. Looking at those contracts they are showing a fairly low volume for the day. Chances are the price was hit and IB was offering your position but no one actually wanted to buy it at that price and time.

Which contract are you trying to trade?

    So Goes GM

If the US auto companies want to stay in business they need to reinvent themselves. They need to open their eyes up to what the overseas competition is doing. People don't want to pay for a gas guzzling piece of junk that will spend as much time in the shop as on the road and need to hit the...

What kind of effort is needed

Ok dead serious here, look at every trade you made in the last 3 years and count up the trades that fall into the following categories: How many trades made 5% or more? How many trades made 0-5%? How many trades LOST 0-5%? How many trades LOST 5% or more? Post the answers here and you...

    Repairing covered call

Since you are getting into the Options Arena, and if you like covered calls might I suggest trading spreads instead? Here is a very basic spread that has pretty much the same upside as your covered call with a limited downside (unlike your covered call. Instead of buying the stock at...

    The real tragedy ... education

God Article. I applaud P. Aurora Robinson and if every parent regardless of race gave their children that level of commitment the world would be a much better place. I am not saying that every child needs to be home schooled but the parents do need to play an active role in their children's...

    for those filing as traders

If you trade as a business you can deduct any dedicated computer hardware purchases and desk/furniture purchases. If you have a home office used for the business you can deduct a portion of your house payments, and utilities as expenses. You can take a fellow trader to lunch and pick up the tab...

    C

I had a DBL Diag on MER that I closed out of today in preparation for earnings myself. It was a nice little 16% trade since March 25th (2 weeks) but with earnings coming up and no idea what kind of write downs the banks will still have left to announce I wasn't staying in it.

    The real tragedy ... education

I think only Pa(b)st said anything close to that. I think this might (and this is pure conjecture) have something to do with blacks tend to hold themselves back more than other races. NOT b/c they are stupid or lazy, but more b/c of the stigma of slavery and racism that makes many feel they...

why do many traders give seminars etc..?

In a word: Marketing. The way these teachers market their seminars make it seem to the masses that they will be taught "secrets" available no where else. It's basically the same reason some people still fall for the Amway scam, Carlton Sheets Real Estate programs, or any other myriad of money...

why do many traders give seminars etc..?

Once again you skim a post read but a few words and jump to conclusions. Do you honestly think from reading a small portion of 2 posts without any comprehension of what the posts said suddenly gives you some kind of clarity or insight into how a person is in life? Then again I guess the only...

why do many traders give seminars etc..?

Oh don't get me wrong I didn't say they would teach you their exact "edge". The best I can gather most training seminars only teach people the market basics. Things that will improve the average newbie just by teaching them how to read trend lines, support resistance, basic chart patterns, and a...
