    Opinion for a strategy?

So you are saying that you want to watch the market for the first half hour and buy into the top gainers? Have you thought about the probably that will be about the time they are moving into a resistance level and about to start dropping again? Buying AFTER a strong run up is not a real good idea.

Why do you guys trade options?

You are right you could just purchase 100 shares of SPY directly for $11,800. If the next day it drops to 110 then you only lost $800. With the options you only invested $300 and if SPY somehow dropped all the way to $10/share then you still only lost $300. On the other hand if SPY rose from...

Why do you guys trade options?

Here are 4: 1. Predetermined maximum risk. 2. Doesn't require you to be glued to your screen hours a day. 3. More powerful and complex strategies to make money in any market. 4. Eliminates the problems of using "stop-loss" orders. (ex: Gaps past your stop and getting stopped out early)

    Options bought or sold?

There is always a buyer and a seller. Even if the buyer or seller is a market maker. How can you possibly buy something if there no one will sell it? EDIT to clarify: IF an item changes hands, there is always a buyer and a seller. In your example the market maker will become either the buyer...

    Options bought or sold?

Open Interest is a count of Open Contracts not open positions. Which is why what I said and MTE said is correct. A contract for anything covers 1 buyer and 1 seller. If you write a contract to buy a house, you don't need a second contract for the seller to sell it. The one contract includes the...

    Options bought or sold?

It is always both. If something is bought then that means someone sold it. If something is sold then that means someone bought it. If an item changes hands for money then it was BOTH bought and sold by opposing parties. However I assume you might be talking about the Open Interest of an...

Best Visual Basic Book to learn from

No offense but this is actually a trading forum. While you might get a decent answer here, you would probably get a much better answer by asking this question here: http://www.vbforums.com/

Why did the US send so much work overseas?

QFT I have been saying for a while now the solution to the "healthcare" issue is to expand medicaid/medicare to all those that cannot physically work and educate the ones that can work so they can get jobs that provide insurance. I would also support day care programs to allow single parents...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

Notice that marine said in the US that an uninsured office visit costs $350 usd. The prescription medications that you then have to pay for add a lot more cost. So yes for minor things like a common cold taking OTC cold medicine for $5 - $10 saves an uninsured person a lot of money. For those...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

First of all dumb ass, a fever of 105 is NOT just a runny nose is it? Yes of course you should have taken your kid in for that. Many people do go to the Dr. every time they sneeze and yes that is a problem. As far as your 10% of the time the medicine doesn't work is obviously a completely...

Why did the US send so much work overseas?

...and in 1993, Sir James Goldsmith, in his book "The Trap", warned of the dangers of globalization. On Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Trap-James-Goldsmith/dp/078670263X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246039027&sr=1-3 One reviewer summarized the book nicely:

Why did the US send so much work overseas?

You need to replace the word Republican with Democrat and you have this part right. It's the Dems that want to obliterate the middle class and make everyone illiterate and dependent on Democrat supported government programs like welfare to entrap them into having to vote Democratic (to keep...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

It doesn't take a genius to realize that you don't need a Dr. every time you sneeze. MOST of the time someone who is "sick" and goes to the Dr. only gets told "you just have that virus that's been going around" and they get a prescription for an antibiotic that won't do anything to help anyway...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

Oh trust me I know. I can't count the times that a Dr has prescribed an antibiotic to a friend or family member for a VIRUS. To me no HC reform bill is complete without banning kickbacks to Dr.'s for prescriptions they write. Oh and lets not forget how many people they bilk for an unnecessary...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

That is part of the problem. Too many people go to see a Dr (or to the ER) every time their nose runs. There are OTC drugs already to handle colds and flu symptoms and cost a ton less cash. Now if symptoms persist for longer than normal THEN go to the Dr. The more you depend on medications for...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

Assuming these numbers are accurate, you are saying that $578/month/person is "more than needed"? Also what about the people working for private insurance companies now? They would become unemployed and added to that number of people needing government health care which would further reduce...

46.3 million Americans without health insurance

If you have proof of that I'd like to see it. In general insurance companies get LOWER prices than people without insurance. The bigger the insurance company the cheaper the price...they basically negotiate "bulk" pricing that individuals can't. I don't see how that ADDS 30% to total cost.
