Calculating Topix/N225 open Monday Nov 12th

Since I don't trade the Japan open I'm not familiar with Japanese ETFs trading in the US and how to figure what the Mon open "should" be based upon their closing prices in the US on Friday. In other words, what would the Friday US close in ETFs and/or ADRs imply the Topix and Nikkei 225...

    Seasonal spreads

Hello kahai, Hope things are going well. The -80 profit target for the Jul/Mar spread is calculated based on historical performance along the procedure I described a couple of months ago, with a little extra added since Wheat has been so volatile this season. Congratulations on your large...

Today I closed the spread in Soybean Meal - and the timing was good: As I suspected the grains and soybeans would sell off after being up in the overnight session. Sold 4 Dec 07, Bought 4 Jul 08 ZM Soybean Meal @ -2.20 - CLOSED - PROFIT of 2.675 which is 535 usd. I'm glad I chose to hold...

Thanks for that, gurucanditate. I'd also be very interested to hear more about the procedures in the grain business. Today (premarket) I've added another contract in the Jul 08/Mar 08 Wheat spread, this time at -129. This makes the average -140 1/2. So for the record here's the position...

    Seasonal spreads

Here's the scorecard as October has come to an end: 4 open losers, with CL bringing the most red ink. Seems like Crude Oil heading towards 100 is making this an off year in energies. Unfortunately the Sep 08 contract has absolutely no electronic action. Other than that, I haven't given up...

As far as I know you can't get even delayed Imarex-quotes, you have to pay for realtime. I know Reuters carry it, and Bloomberg should have it as well.

Guys, if you're looking at BDI I'll give you a heads up: Watch the bulk freight futures on Imarex. The BDI for the following day is computed on the basis of the futures. Wow - imagine being one day ahead of the BDI, huh? (And no; the BDI calculation from the futures market is NOT straightforward...

    Seasonal spreads

I put on a contract in this spread today: Bought 1 Jul 08, Sold 1 Mar 08 ZW Wheat @ -152 I might add another contract if there's a pullback of some sort. I'm planning to hold well into February. I've been watching this since it was sub -200. Other than that my crude oil spread is...

    Seasonal spreads

I apologise for the delayed fill report, but I was busy receiving my beautiful baby daughter at the hospital! Drinks are on me! Whilst this was happening I got another contract filled in the Natural Gas spread, this one at -0.150. So the full position is: Long 2 Mar 08, Short 2 Jan 08 NG...

    Seasonal spreads

Today I (finally) got my fill for the final contract in the Heating Oil spread, this time at -0.0900. Together with the first exit at -0.0600 this makes the avg exit -0.0750. Sold 2 May 08, Bought 2 Dec 07 HO Heating Oil @ -0.0750 - CLOSED - PROFIT usd 1.260 I'm not too happy with the...

    Seasonal spreads

I just thought I'd write a brief note - no trades or anything. Just a few comments on what's on, and what's to come. Dec / Jul 08 ZM: My moving stoploss has been hit, but I've decided to stay with it for now and instead close it if it drops under -8. Partly because my bad avg entry skews the...

How much is your account size bottleneck?

OP: I recognize the situation. I think it's part a mental hurdle, and part execution as you may have worked strategies up to the point where you move the market too much. I've been in such situations myself. For me it's better to take money out of the account, and then try to work it up to...

Japan, China Sell Most U.S. Debt in at Least 5 Years

Whilst admitting to being a total idiot when it comes to interest rates, bonds and US economy I must say that it makes a lot of sense for Asian central banks to use stock market corrections to lighten their load of US debt as there should be good bids for their paper. Or am I totally wrong?

    Seasonal spreads

I actually think I was quoted around 1.8k GBP a month! Yes, I used CIX as well, but even the Bloomberg representatives couldn't help me create an intraday candlestick chart. I was mainly looking at it for news (which is totally excellent) and fundamental research/analysis.

    Seasonal spreads

Hm, this doesn't quite add up? Because the chart looks quite correct as a Long March/Short Jan - the opposite should be trading in positive territory. If I'm not totally mistaken - perhaps 4 odd hours of sleep last night is taking it's toll :)

    Seasonal spreads

First of all: By all means, this is very on-topic - no apologies needed at all! I'm glad you take an interest. And yes, you've got the right contracts! Here's a list of my entries in the current ZM-spread: Sep 14: 1 @ -7.00 Sep 20: 1 @ -4.50 Sep 29: 1 @ -3.60 Oct 1: 1 @ -4.40 This...

    Seasonal spreads

First of all: Sweet chart! Looks like Bloomberg? My entry was a limit order on Globex, resting at -0.180 for a long time, and yesterday the intraday action was below that for a few minutes. So, it was a pretty good entry, in the hindsight of one day. I know a lot of spreaders enter MOC, but I...

    Eurex products for intraday trading

If you look at the Euro value of contracts traded today (roughly calculated), you'll find that the Dax did about 37 billion Euros nominal value whilst the Eurostoxx did about 55 billion - the Dax is 2/3 of the Eurostoxx. If you adjust the order book for volatility then you can do some serious...

Today I opened a position I've been bidding for for over a week: Long 1 Mar 08, Short 1 Jan 08 NG Natural Gasl @ -0.180 Other than that: Both the spreads in Crude Oil and Soybean Meal are not looking too hot, both are close to stoploss.
