In the market for a new/used trading station

For the flat panel's I'd buy new ones. They're perishable. For the P4 you can build one or find something on e*bay pretty cheap. Everyone is on to Xeons or Opterons at the high-end of workstations now.

How to trade RE and Credit Spreads?

It won't be that great of a trade unless you can get a lot of leverage on the spread. Retail would be 2:1. And you'd have to pay out the interest diferential each month until it hits.

    Flexible Order Sizes

You have to buy/sell whole contracts in the futures. If you want less than 1 ES NQ ER mini you could do it in ETF's instead like SPY, QQQ. Just buy less than a round lot to match the face value you want. You won't get the advantages of futures trading if you do this in a retail account. 1...

How to buy T-bills on IB?

They have an all-in commission that's not bad but the bid/ask on the futures isn't so great.

Marijuana top U.S. cash crop, bigger than corn and wheat combined

Just imagine the arguments people would get into over whether their kind bud was acceptable for delivery.

How to buy T-bills on IB?

You buy stock with cash, simultaneously selling a futures contract against the stock. The futures trade higher than the underlying to account for dividends and carry. You make the price difference as synthetic interest. Pretty close to LIBOR rate. There is a ET thread on this somewhere that has...

How to buy T-bills on IB?

You might look at doing the EFP on 100 shares of stock that has a face value of 10k. You get the LIBOR rate minus commissions. If we are really talking about 10k, one month's interest is only $45 so this thread is probably just academic.

    NYC Alternatives

Aren't any of you young traders able to get laid on your own? You guys are way too young to be paying for it.

How to buy T-bills on IB?

There is probably an ETF that replicates tbills you can use. Won't help if you specifically want t-bills for their marginable properties.

Best Way to Minimize Interest and Finance Charges on Credit Card Bills

It's way below-market financing if the transfer fee is capped at $50 or $75 and the amount you transfer is large in relation. Of course, anyone with enough income and assets to swing multiple, large credit limits wouldn't be interested in making a few k a year on a carry trade. Traveler

    IB EFP implied rates

I've been playing with this function at IB. You can get it to show you annualized yields on efp's in basis points and then do it in one click. Looks like you get around 5.5% on GOOG. This depends on commissions and whether you get the bid or the ask price. You basically get LIBOR minus...

    Single STock Futures.....

Regarding the QQQ, why are you trying to do SSF on QQQ when you can just use futures contracts on the Nasdaq anyway? Those are pretty liquid. I can only think it's because you want a smaller notional value.

    Single STock Futures.....

I'm also assuming you get the 60/40 tax treatment on implied interest from holding the SSF versus paying ordinary taxes on broker interest.

    SPX Credit Spread Trader

I'm over 100 pages late to this party, but can I ask a simple question? Is there a theoretical edge to this method or does it come from directional bets on the SPX with a wider margin of error due to time decay working in your favor? Traveler

Whats the name of the mutual fund that is based on carry trades?

Looks like a very interesting ETF. Decent returns, low correlation to other investments. They should probably hire ElectricSavant to be their portfolio manager though.

Does it help to work in NYC?

Everyone always bitches about the high cost of living in fashionable urban areas. If you want access to all the fun stuff that living in a big city entails, then you're going to have to pay for it. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. Traveler

Does it help to work in NYC?

I have the totally opposite opinion. I thought most people in NYC were much fitter and better looking than elsewhere, except perhaps CA. You have to walk a lot more than living elsewhere. We may hang out in different circles though. I never made it out of the East Village except to go to...
