Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

IC. well perhaps we have different thoughts. I'm just of the opinion that no matter how well developed your model is...price action is impossible to predict perfectly...so the best models are simply trying to place bets w/ the best odds. Like a poker player. Difference of opinion/ view of...

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

Mrs. S, I looked at Electric's example. Relating it to what I said.....If his method guarentees a profit....then your right. But if it is an edge that puts the odds highly in your favor....then again, its just like a pro poker player who has a sound strategy for which hands to play...

    Why so hard on indicators?

Point well taken. I was thinking something along the lines of.... the 10MA crossed the 50MA.....or XYZ fell to its 200EMA...whatever... => Facts... vs. This is a pullback from a high, therefore a buying opportunity, not a reversal....or this support will hold... => more...

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

my humble opinion: Casino gambling w/ slots and what not, pure chance/luck...doesn't appeal to me. Poker/trading....at the higher levels, where it is a career for people......it is people that know their game well, and take bets when the odds are in their favor. You make a trade...

    Why so hard on indicators?

the argument that indicators are made up of data already on the screen is true, but the corollary to that is that an indicator is always objective. Not an argument for or against them, just a statement. They're just a tool. You learn your method from interpreting price/volume, or...

    Do Trendlines work?

as opposed to the loads that got rich by reading the entire book? Like I said, they are a tool. Some successful traders use them, some don't. Which implies that when used correctly, they are helpful. Its funny when people here talk about some trading tools and act like just because...

    Do Trendlines work?

I believe trendlines/flag patterns can be useful in equities. Just like anything else, a tool in your arsenal. Daytrading the ES, I believe trendlines are of less help than say, S/R. Trenlines on a smaller timeframe are of less value, imo. Especially, since the ES is not trending now :)

    trend following delusion shattered

You pretty much echoed alot of my beliefs right there. Especially because.....my trade management system....I employ a trailing stop...so even a good entry on a bad trade could mean break even. Check my journal every once in awhile and I'm sure I'll give you a few PM's....thanks brol. john

    trend following delusion shattered

great job catchin 10 points there...thats a BIG accomplishment. I missed this trend day...ended up minus 1 ES point on the day....and I was short at 1182.....but a poor entry led to my stop being hit before i caught the move. But on the other trend day..I managed to do well. It is upsetting...

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

I just started playing hold 'em after never having enjoyed cards in my entire life. I must say that there are parallels to trading, and I'm enjoying the game alot.

    CNBC - Cramer's Mad Money

Cramer is a smart guy. He's obviously enjoying his life...and he's working in a biz we all love...the financial markets. Past that, unless your a real gambler why would you buy his calls? If you think you can make money on that....good luck. I believe if you are a serious trader then...

    Mathematics skills for discretionary trading.

there are a few different points of view expressed in this thread...the consensus seems to be that higher math skills are not a necessity. To the orginal poster: Just to play the devil's advocate....you can see most indipendent traders are not using math past basic arithmatic to...

    Mathematics skills for discretionary trading.

hi, I actually just finished my math undergrad a year ago. I don't think have a degree in math gives me any type of edge whatsover. The most valueable thing I take away from studying math undergrad is that it changed my thinking in regards to challenges or problems in anyway....When...

Isn't GOOG a great short right now??

I trade the ES not stocks, but goog looks kinda scary to me.....i just thought of the irony in saying "I trade the ES, google is scary..." anyway.... I dont' know enough about it to say anything for sure but if I had to be in it I'd be short. Sentiment w/ a lock up ...I'm sure there are...
