13-Year-Old Makes Solar Power Breakthrough by Harnessing the Fibonacci Sequence

I'm not a believer in the whole "fibonacci levels in the markets are magic" theory, but if you are, (and I know you're out there, otherwise, my library would not have so many books on just this topic), you will love this story...

After 15 years, I finally get it right...

Difficult to tell because the original image is of low quality, but the blur around the blue digits is definitely suspicious. :) ELA: ELA page: http://errorlevelanalysis.com/permalink/8813c0b/

    a trading problem for mathematicians

KC & The Sunshine Band - Please don't go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-l5FyA3pgo Hopefully, you can't kick the addiction! :p But if you do, crap!, I'll miss you asiaprop. I learned some interesting stuff from your previous posts. You're one of the few mathematically inclined people...

    a trading problem for mathematicians

I LOVE this thread. euclid is the ONLY guy speaking some sense (, and there are a couple of quite successful traders in here, too, LOL!) :D For some reason, I am reminded of the survey which found that people who rank the poorest in mathematical skills ranked themselves as being...

    Developing a profitable system(infrastructure) on a (pseudo-)random data

SomeYoungGuy, I looked through my bookmarks and did not find anything similar / thought-provoking. But I guess Wikipedia articles on the same topic(s) should be useful.

    Developing a profitable system(infrastructure) on a (pseudo-)random data

Mike805, gotcha, thanks. The mathematics is way over my head. Here's a nice American Scientist article on optimal stopping that I had coincidentally saved for later reading. http://www.americanscientist.org/issues/feature/knowing-when-to-stop/1 Edit : So yes, you were right, and this is...

    Developing a profitable system(infrastructure) on a (pseudo-)random data

Mike805, your Excel sheet seems to work only because RANDBETWEEN(-1, 1) results in 2 cases (-1 and 0) where C is still the "High", and only 1 case where R is a High (for 1), i.e., 2/3 = 66.6%. If you change that to RANDBETWEEN(-2, 2), you get 60% because now, there are 3 cases (-2, -1, and 0)...

    What was your first computer

Link to ZX Spectrum advert ('80s) "48K memory : still more usable memory than leading competitors" :p

    What was your first computer

My neighbour had a ZX Spectrum, and you had to load the programs (mainly video games) by playing them on a cassette tape recorder. My own first computer was an Intel 8088-based PC. 3.5 MHz. Digger rocked on it, baby! And it had a Turbo button that I was afraid to touch. I think that made it go...

What are common methods for pre-processing indicators for machine learning algos?

intradaybill, I believe you are a successful trader and have a good grasp of statistics, but I think you are wrong on this one. I think APS is just an implementation of Genetic Algorithms, which is an optimization/search technique over a high-dimensional space (in this case, that space is the n...

What books shaped your trading mind?

Not true for the average poster on ET. :p But seriously, writing down my thoughts/ideas on trading every day (or at least regularly) was one of the best things I ever started.

    Huge Econ News for Israel

I believe that the number of terrorists in this world has hugely increased since the U.S. started meddling in others' affairs. In fact, the U.S. is now in a position where it has literally assured itself of an endless stream of future terrorist attacks by terrorists that it has itself created...

Asian markets to close monday up or down ? (monday 12 april 2010)

Depends on which index you are trading and which way most people placed their binary option bets. :p The Indian market and the HSI, for example, seem hopelessly manipulated towards the close to expire just above/below some barriers.

Correlation: WTI crude and S&P 500

Questions : if it worked for 18 consecutive profitable years, why do you need to teach it for a fee? If a "ET newbie" made $12K last month from it, I suppose you can make at least that much per month, no? That's $144K per annum, which is not bad. At least, it would be enough to not have to sell...

    Incorporate as a small trader

Incorporating protects you from personal bankruptcy. I have not reached there yet, but it sounds like the natural thing to do when going professional, even if you're just trading for yourself.

    Day trading article on nytimes.com

:p But remember, "It’s more like staring at the instrument panel of a jet while eavesdropping on the pilots, " eh?! Whenever I see an article on day trading in the mass media, I start with a groan. We all know what's coming next: incorrect generalizations, misplaced glorification, et al.

    AHG - Support and Q&A

Outlawed, towards the end of the thread, you should find two large Word documents with all the concepts (sorry, you'll have to do a bit of searching to find that; I don't have a link to it). The first 5 to 10 pages are very good, too. Though the basic concept is very simple, I noticed that...

    good good VB books

Bays, I suggest : Learn Excel for finance from gummy stuff (http://www.financialwebring.org/gummystuff/), start off with some concept from there which you like, and learn VB as a part of fiddling with that concept. I think you will find that more useful than just learning VB by itself...
