Daytrading in secret on the job!

I work full time and swing trade with stop and limit orders that I put in before the open before I go to work, and I sneak on to this website during the day during slow periods.

    Which pro firm to choose?

I would rather see a newbie go with equity options instead of futures. It is too easy to lose way more than your account equity with futures, options have built in limited risk.

Update on my experiences with WorldCo

keep us up to date daytrader, I'm curious. It all sounds like B.S. to me. To the best of my knowlege you cannot enroll in a 401K unless you are a W2 employee.

BARRON'S: Barron's Mailbag: Bring Back Fractions

I don't care about replacing fractions with decimals, but I think that going to fractional pennies is just crazy. Also, I wouldn't mind a 5 cent price increment and 5 cent spread on stocks over $10/shr. Its no wonder that the specialists and the market makers just step out of the way whenever a...

    DOW Crashing ?!

    Highly selective trading

you know, I here people saying that "my day trading sucks" but really I have yet to see any real proof that trying to be a scalper and paying commissions doesn't just suck period. I could see buying in the morning and selling in a couple hours if a nice move occurs, but anything tighter than...

    Highly selective trading

This is a powerfull argument against both buy and hold ( pray ) and constant daytrading ( self churning ).

    my chances?

Read "reminiscences of a stock operator" that was published in the 20's. If you read that book and absorb it you will know a lot more than the general public. It also might inspire you because it is about a guy who was a self employed trader by the time he was 21. Based on a true story but...

    Which pro firm to choose?

you have to ask yourself why you want to go to a "prop" firm if you have to put up your own money. If you want leverage, you can go to a retail firm and get 4:1 margin on a 25k account or larger, or you can get into derivatives. If you are unemployed and broke, then you need to get yourself a...

    stock trading: monthly return

I think there is hope for options and futures traders, but I'm not talking about scalping. Historically there weren't many stock only daytraders that were outsiders paying commissions. That came on big during the bull market. But, as long as their have been standardized exchange traded options (...

    my chances?

try your best to get an internship at a major wall street firm. At 20 with a degree and good grades all you need is experience and a well recognized name of a company on your resume. The majority of "prop" firms are just brokerages and you would just be their customer, putting up your own money...

Large orders half hour before close

the pickup of trading in the last half hour is one of those things that is a well known occurance. Many people do most of their trades in the last half hour. It effects the entire U.S. stock market and has nothing to do with how the orders are routed.

    Risk of Ruin

If your hypothetical person is always margined to the maximum and always 100% long or 100% short, and always strictly daytrading, then I think he is doomed. Between the margin interest, transaction costs, and the occasional unforeseen event in the market, his days would be numbered. The crazy...
