Who is really making a living trading options??

In a feeble attempt to add something to the thread, I can say that I and a few others I know make a living trading options. We don’t do it without risk and a lot of hard work, and we don’t attempt for over the top returns. To throw out some numbers: even if you are really good (and lucky)...

Who is really making a living trading options??

He is losing his touch in this thread. Not one insistence that someone should commit suicide for the benefit of the community, no reference to a poster being on some esoteric drug, no bitingly humorous jabs about how someone is to moronic to even function. Must be in an unusually good mood.:)

    NFA/CFTC exemptions for AUM limit?

You are right, I was thinking of CPO. For a CTA you just have to do it for less than 15 people and do nothing public of any kind, then there is not a dollar limit.

    Neophyte Question on SPX Straddle

CBOE site has lots of information for you: http://www.cboe.com/Products/indexopts/spx_spec.aspx The multiplier is 100 for SPX so your straddle would cost $100 times the quote you see on the screen. Yours would be $23,590 for a one lot if your quote is right. The only straddles in the SPX...

    iPhone 4s vs. new Android?

Thanks for all the feedback. From what I have read the 4s is definitely better than the 4 and a great phone overall. But as a few of you have pointed out the new Android phones right now are good too, and with the new operating system today they will be getting even better. It seems like it...

    iPhone 4s vs. new Android?

Anyone have an opinion on the iPhone 4s vs. Android phones? I need a new phone and I am waiting for the announcements today on the new (and supposedly very good) Android phones. There is the Samsung Nexus Prime (aka Galaxy Nexus) which will run the new ice cream sandwich OS, and Motorola’s...

Pls help me understand option market making

I would answer your questions if I could, but I was an equity options market maker, not a futures options one, and of the things I trade now Eurodollar options is not one of them. Just in general though, I don’t think anyone is going to care about 1 or 2 lots, you would just have to stick...

    "Missing" options prices in IB

There are no “huge” implications for anything except the continued fact that people who know nothing about options should not trade them. If you don’t know what your option is worth at all times then you should not trade them. If you know what it is worth you can put in an order and...

HDD to SSD transition best practices for laptop

Not sure what you mean by not wanting your previous emails. I have multiple imap and pop emails that I use with outlook, and I just did a fresh install of office, then setup my email accounts again (only takes a few minutes if you write down all your current settings) then it will take a little...

HDD to SSD transition best practices for laptop

I think we are in agreement that a fresh (time consuming) install of everything is best. As for the hardware, that is a matter of personal opinion at this point since you have already done so much work to upgrade all the other components. But $700 is still a lot, so you should shop around to...

HDD to SSD transition best practices for laptop

Reinstalling all your programs and an operating system are always a pain, but in my opinion, the only way to go. I recently did a reinstall of my win 7 machine and had to spend all day reinstalling all my programs and moving all my files back after moving them to an external drive during the...

Dual Channel vs Quad Channel RAM question

I recently went to the Crucial website and downloaded their scanner to find compatible ram. Upgraded a machine from 4 to 8gb and it was ridiculously easy and cheap. Programmers are getting lazy with ram and it is now assumed that you have more. It was not long ago that 2gb was normal and now...

Virtual trading room for Options Sellers ?

Why assume fat people are too lazy to eat right and exercise? Why assume liberals don’t understand basic math and human nature? Why assume almost all ETers don’t make a living trading? Why assume that everyone asking questions about iron condors don’t know what they are doing? I...

    Steve Jobs RIP

One of my first computers was the Apple II many, many years ago. He has had a direct or indirect impact on all of us, and will be missed.

    Basic Commissions Question

IB has good commissions and is a good strong company, but there are a few negatives and you have to see what is best for you. Some don’t like their software, everyone agrees their charts are bad, and they have an automated risk system that may hurt you if you use measurable leverage.
