    Look at silver go (down)!

I like my fingers, so I won’t be trying to catch any falling knives in gold or silver. I would be interested in buying some physical if it falls enough though.

think or swim sucks. any better way

Sounds like you have one window, and you have multiple chart panes within the one window. What tab are you on? If you are on the Futures Trader tab, I would say switch to Active Trader then look near the top of the window. Just the left of the Create Alert button (which is a round button with...

think or swim sucks. any better way

Um, close the ones you don’t want? There only needs to be one window open, the main one. You can have as many extra separate windows as you want, or no others. You can also chose to have just one chart in a window or a whole bunch. For the /ES I would do the Trade tab then click Active...

think or swim sucks. any better way

Obviously this is something specific to your machine. There is nothing wrong with the software, or the upgrade process. You always have to upgrade to the newest version, it takes all of a minute or so.

    Audio problems

So all sound works fine, except in your internet browser window? Which browser are you using?

Should I build my own or buy refurbished

Building your own is really not that hard, but it will take a good amount of time to learn. So it is mainly about what you want. Once you learn you can build machines for yourself forever, so the intial time commitment isn’t just for one build but all future builds. However, I wouldn’t...

    Options on Futures

Just curious, do you mean 100 trades or 100 futures options contracts total? A 10 lot trader with 100 round trips per year is 2000 contracts, and overpaying by $3 per contract is an unnecessary expense of $6,000.

    Options on Futures

Why would anyone trade at OptionsXpress for futures options? Aren’t they $3.50 plus fees? Normally you should pay .50 to maybe a dollar or so plus fees.

    Screen resolution

It is thinkorswim, TDA now. Just a pretend setup to fill up the screens for the pic. I trade options and they are a great firm for that. Been with them a long time so I negotiated really good rates.

Three 30 inch monitors... is it enough?

Not to detract from the kids arguing, but I would be interested in your impressions of the u3014, especially how much heat they output over the day.

Three 30 inch monitors... is it enough?

I think three 30” monitors would be great. I have thought about replacing my three 24” ones with three 30” but all the 30” ones I know of tend to get hot. My 24” don’t put off hardly any heat at all, but my 30” NEC get quite hot. They are really good monitors and when calibrated...

    Screen resolution

This was my old setup with two 30”, two 26”, and two 19”. I wasn’t a fan of mixed resolutions on one computer, so I switched it a little. The two 30” are in the same place and are on one computer, and the other four monitors in the pic were replaced by three Dell u2412m on another...

Best Place to Place Option Trades?

Two places to look at: Interactive Brokers, and thinkorswim/TDA. If you are new and don’t know exactly what you want you are probably better off starting with the thinkorswim platform. The IB platform can be a bit of a learning curve for some. Start with TDA, then open a second account at...

    Falcon or Digital Tigers

I am not sure I would but a computer from a place that claims to make “trading” computers, but I have not used those companies so I can’t say they are bad. Looking at the websites, they are not too impressive. Building your own is really not that hard, there are a ton of websites and...

    Screen resolution

I work with two 2560x1600 and three 1920x1200, I really don’t like 1080 screens or TN monitors but that is just me. The 2560x1600 30inch monitors are great when working with Excel or many charts, you have a lot of screen real estate. They were always on the high side but now there are off...

Benefits of trading through an LLC.

I have posted this before, but since I think some of the posts in this thread could be misinterpreted, I will post something again. 1) You don't need a business entity to deduct any and all trading related expenses. You do need to qualify as having trader status as apposed to be an investor...

    Office 2013...

Not only is it common knowledge that Office 2007 is the slowest and least refined Office of all of them, it is simply a fact. I have it and have tested it many, many times and it is just plain slow. But if it works for you, then that it fine. I just could find nothing that 2007 does better...

    Office 2013...

If you are just doing basic stuff then I guess Office 2007 will work for you. But if that is the case there are free office programs out there that will do the same. If you actually use MS Office in a significant way e.g., backtesting, macros, automation, etc. then 2007 doesn't really...

    Office 2013...

My mistake I forgot where I was posting. You are obviously correct, Office 2007 is the best, and so is Vista. No question about it, all those silly facts don't matter. "much more simpler" pretty much sums it up for this site.

Starting a fund / raising capital

Agreed, MTM makes perfect sense for stock traders, and zero sense for profitable futures traders. No one know what qualifies for trader status since so few cases have gone to court. I think anyone who honestly believes they trade for a living, don't have other income, and claims reasonable...
