    RIP Thinkorswim

Well as a former risk manager who has spent a significant amount of time analyzing the mathematics behind futures margins, I will simply agree to disagree with you. Simple question, if the CME is so stupid and so wrong as you say they are, then why is TOS the one and only firm raising the ES to...

    RIP Thinkorswim

You are right, I remember that one. But I am aware of the other 20+ changes that have happened since then and none were announced.

Rickf, you have to log into TDA website then click on Trade->Futures and the table is at the bottom. Jshinv, they never announce futures margin increases, they just do them. Joneog, 80 handles is $4000 which is more than covered by the CME’s $5000, there was no need to raise it to $6500...

    RIP Thinkorswim

It wasn’t over the weekend it was actually last week. So far I see ES, CL, 6S, SI, GC, RB, 6B and a bunch others that are all higher than the CME. You probably won’t find any broker charging as high a margin as TDA/thinkorswim.

Virtual trading room for Options Sellers ?

10% per month for 13 years. Let’s assume some very conservatives numbers. Start with $50k, only compound yearly, and pay 23% in taxes. After 13 years your $50k is $247,534,584.01. Where do I send the check to sign up?

    RIP Thinkorswim

I don’t think TDA had futures before they took over TOS, so what I am referring to is the combined company is charging everyone excessively high margins on some futures. Whoever is in charge of futures margins doesn’t know what they are doing. They randomly change things with no...

    RIP Thinkorswim

They are going through a lot of transitions with the TDA integration, so they do have a reasonable “excuse” for all the problems of late. I started a thread about all the quote problems they are having, and emailed all the information to them. Before TDA I would have gotten a serious...

    Dell’s new 24 inch monitor

Dell just came out with a new monitor, the U2412M. It is a 24 inch widescreen monitor with 1920x1200 resolution which is a big deal for me because I like the extra room vs. the now standard 1080. This is an LED backlit screen with a budget IPS screen, which is a lot better than a TN screen...

A vertical call debit spread triggers a margin call. Does that shound right?

It depends on your broker. Some will admit that it probably shouldn’t have happened and refund something to you, others will say screw you even if they were wrong and you have to take them to arbitration. The simple fact is that the reg-t margin requirement for a normal, properly formed...

A vertical call debit spread triggers a margin call. Does that shound right?

No it does not sound right. If there are no, and I mean NO, other circumstances or pertinent information then in my professional opinion your broker made a serious mistake. Was this IB and their automated computer getting you out of the trade? You will probably get more help if you give all...

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

Most of the day today things were looking pretty good, but as we had the selloff into the close I had a ton of slowness and complete quote shutdowns. One easy way I found to watch it is to click on the Help tab from the main window then click on the “System” button. That will give you a...

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

Anyone selling OTM index iron condors would most likely have a max loss at this point and would just be sitting at home staring at their screen, rocking back in forth in their chair, sweating through their shirt and praying for a rally to get lucky enough so the market gets back above their...

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

I am seeing a lot of quote freezing today. The freeze lasts about the same amount of time – anywhere from 1 second to 10 usually – but it seems to be happening a lot today. I have even tried completely uninstalling the program on a second computer and reinstalling it with all generic...

Yes, and I also know the sky is blue, grass is green, and the people in Washington are incompetent. You still owe me money for calling you a few years ago. :)

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

Quotes held up pretty well today, most of the delays I saw were brief and intermittent. But I still captured a 17 second delay. You can see from the picture below that the time stamp on Ninja/Zenfire was 3:45:43 pm but the most recent print in the thinkorswim time and sales window was 15:45:26...

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

Thanks for all the comments. To be clear I am using the ES futures just as an example because it is one instrument that we know has a times and sales print every second during busy times so it is useful in determining the lag, but this is not a futures quotes problem alone. When my quotes...

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

I have attached a picture of two screenshots from the close on Friday. You can see the actual time in the top right corner next to the date, which was 15:58:10 (1 minute 50 seconds before the close), and the other at 16:00:31 (which was 31 seconds after the close). We know that the ES futures...

    Anyone with a thinkorswim account….

I know questions similar to this have popped up here but I wanted to ask something specific about thinkorswim quotes. If any of you happen to have a live login to the thinkorswim desktop (not a paper money account) I would appreciate your help with this. What I am noticing right now (in the...

What to make of this strategy?

First of all it is not a once in 80 year occurrence, not even close. Second, the one that does you in is the one that hasn’t happened before and cannot be predicted. I can think of a whole host of occurrences that if they happened to transpire would result in a 20% gap down and a triple...

Buying a spread at the natural?

Mav, it has been years since I have been a stock option market maker (I trade futures options now), but are you saying people no longer have the ability to send a spread order to an exchange? There are no brokers walking into the pit? Like I said, if any public spread order came into a pit I...
