    RIP Thinkorswim

You are kidding right? Optionsxpress charges $12.99 to do a futures options contract. The futures options all have different fees, but a normal price is $2 to $3 at most.

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

Without the risk of one big drop taking your account to zero, or significantly negative if you are selling naked like these guys do.

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

One of the firms that does this kind of trading is LJM with a few hundred million. They lost 8.2% in July, and just lost 32.7% in August to be down a total 26.3% for the year. Since the end of 2007 they have lost over 21%, so they spent almost 4 years losing 21% of their client’s money...

    Best Monitors for Eyes

IMO you should never use a TV as a monitor. As has been said already, TVs are designed from the start to be viewed at a distance and computer monitors are designed to be used close. Most all monitors are set to ridiculous levels out of the box and need to be immediately adjusted for you to...

    HP/Compaq or Dell?

If price is not that big of an issue why not buy from a specialty builder. I have two Maingear computers and have been happy with them. I can’t imagine ever buying a computer from Dell again. Usually people on this site are so desperate to save a few dollars they will sacrifice service...

    Trading Chairs

These are nice, unfortunately you actually have to be a profitable trader to afford one, so no one here would be interested: http://www.ergonomicofficechairs.com/heavy-duty-chairs.asp?categoryID=78

    Dell’s new 24 inch monitor

Here is another, very detailed review of the monitor: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2412m.htm I ended up with a 44 brightness because I use a target of 140cd/m2 and they ended up with a 35 brightness because they used a target of 120cd/m2. Both of those targets are in the...

    Dell’s new 24 inch monitor

That sounds like the best plan, monitors are definitely a matter of preference and how you actually use them. I can tell you will these u2412m I have not had any problems so far, but the out of the box settings are utterly ridiculous. I can see someone buying a monitor and just turning it on...

    Dell’s new 24 inch monitor

Sent you a PM. If you end up getting one let me know and I can give you some reference points for settings. The third one I ordered today is supposed to get here in a week.

    Dell’s new 24 inch monitor

These are nice monitors, and considering they are just over $300 I can’t find anything better for the price. I am now ordering a third one after testing out the two I received. I compared them side by side with a $2000 monitor, and while obviously not quite as good, they held their own...

    RIP Thinkorswim

I have heard that eventually Penson will not be used and they will be their own FCM, but it sounded like it was a little ways off. The email I received yesterday to my inquiry regarding this stated “Thanks for the email. We are still using Penson for futures trading.”
  12. O

    RIP Thinkorswim

I believe this is not correct. The only thing they are working on is to get the automatic sweep from your margin account back and forth to your Penson futures account set up again. Penson will be clearing their futures trades for awhile.

I see tons of put buyers and tail hedgers in the equity index markets

ES 20 day historical vol 45.8%, current VIX 41.8%. Sep ATM straddle trading about 35.8% vol. Next week’s straddle trading around 52 while we have had bigger ranges than that most days for a couple weeks. There is currently a little fear, nothing close to actual fear. We already got the...

The mystery has finally been revealed

Give your trading login and password to a new completely unknown, anonymous company? Sure why not, I mean it is not like a large number of governmental and private companies with far, far superior security have been breached lately, I am sure all your personal private information will be...

Download a copy of Ninja and put in Zenfire or CQG – you can get a trial for free from Amp or Dorman – then put up the time and sales window for the /ES from TOS next to Ninja. Just watch what happens during a few big, fast, high volume moves. I think you may reconsider scalping when you...

    Vix?

Still at 39? It closed 31.58. I watched the puts go down today even as the market dropped, so the fear is definitely receding. I could see another drop in the market spike the VIX back up since not a lot are looking for it.

    RIP Thinkorswim

I talked to Scott about them wanting to keep futures traders or not, and they are unequivocally interested in keeping them and getting new ones. Well that is a nice idea, but if they continue to put out quotes that are behind and overreact with their very high margins then it will be hard to...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

The problem is if they do it, and trading volume flees Europe as expected, then Europe convinces everyone else to do it too.

    ThinkorSwim Excel DDE

I think the TOS software, including the DDE, is one of the things that TDA wanted when they bought them. So while their service level and quotes are suffering I don’t see any reason to worry about your spreadsheets.

    RIP Thinkorswim

Is there a quality firm dedicated to futures and futures options that has all the option analytics of a TOS like platform? As far as futures margin goes, you are right that anything can happen but you have to do it quantitatively for it to be done realistically. The other thing to keep in...
