That could unfold tomorrow or in another year or two. If you have to go back and read it you have traded through one much less two full cycles.

He thinks you are a piker, selling the dream, trading with a $20,000 account. He doesn't get notional value and actual leverage, etc.

If he stated long 500 shares of spy and carried on about that position for months it would not be as sexy. That is all he is doing.

Without knowing the notional value of his account know way to tell. 30%, 3% or 3,000%, could be any without knowing and it's not his or anyone else's duty to reveal that. Everyone projects their own means and linear thinking.

? He is holding the index in the form of leveraged futures, no different then a $140,000x1,2,3 etc holding of spy. Really no magic or dream here unless you are trading a $10,000 account. He is probably actually under performing being under leveraged holding the index. No color on how he...

new to futures...not sure what the issue is today

Welcome to the market! You really need to trade and observe over a full market cycle, several years to answer your question. There is much more then significant dates, economic reports, earnings, seasonality, that drive changes in volatility. Take your time, the market is not going anywhere.

Friday's close will be crucial. Overcoming the impulse of Wednesday's rally and closing at weekly lows would strengthen the bear case here, anything higher then today's close doesn't help. Stop is at break even, 2817, a trade much higher and the break out could move quickly to Jan highs.

    Globex Fee

Paying full on retail, non member rates with a decent broker you can execute a round turn for less then $4 on a contract with $140,000 notional value. Far from expensive and you can further reduce those costs with membership and tiered commissions based on volume from various brokers.

Who was affected by cme outage today?

I was long 18 cars at 70.45. The real squeeze occurred exactly as the outage did around 2:32. I gave up a great deal of open equity. Covered from 70.81-.84 as soon as the problem was fixed at 3:38. You can see the spike of trapped shorts covering at that time.

I used to spend a great deal of time studying indexing, weightings, etc. Not all that useful, just found it interesting to see what was under the hood. I agree, out of step. Looks at sox, not even close to June highs. Looking for a trade able reversal from here to 2815 spx.
