    AMZN Earnings Play

For those interested, I'm in on AMZN earnings. Long 1 AMZN SSF with a 95-strike protective put.

    AMZN Earnings Play

Thinking of the CME myself.....part of me wants to get in before earnings, which I suspect will be quite good this quarter, and part of me (the more conservative voice) says wait until afterwards. *shrug* We'll see. Also debating a speculative bull call option spread on AMZN going into...

    Holding overnight positions

Margin issues aside, on days where you are still seeing momentum in your favor, does anyone hold index futures overnight and just lay in a trailing stop to "let your profits run" for a while? If you get stopped out, fine -- but you may have made a few points more in the after hours, which isn't...

    Just bot AAPL DD

Yep, I am paper-trading this DD.....never thought about it before although I've heard of it. Will be interesting to see what happens.

    Apple

Aside from buying/selling the actual stock, anyone ever thought about using the NQ futures contract as a proxy for firms like AAPL, GOOG, that can move the index as a way to trade the news after-hours/overnight/pre-market?

    10/21 8:42PM Dow Futures Down 107 Points

Yah, part of me is still debating whether or not to sell a few ES and YM minis with tight stops before heading off to bed.....

    Dangerous strategy on expiration

Nah, IMHO you're still playing with fire, even on the indices....unless it was a reeeeally quiet day (and what expiration is?) I still wouldn't do it! I bumped into the trader this morning and he said that when he got back from the gym it was -200 on the DJIA. He ran some errands and it was...

    Dangerous strategy on expiration

My point exactly. Even in the last minute or two of trading, there's always chance for a reversal and getting caught "assignable". Sure you might get some winners but IMO the risks outweigh the benefits.

    Dangerous strategy on expiration

I was talking with a trader at the gym this morning -- he says sometimes he sells an OTM bull put/call spread ON EXPIRATION DAY toward the end of the trading day in the hopes of collecting a little premium from OTM options. I told him I thought it was a risky bet; that even if you're very...

Lucky Coins - FX trading journal

Grats! I have been away from watching the fx market for a week or two (including following your journal), but it looks like you're doing well. Bravo! BTW - As a somewhat novice fx trader what is the 'cable' you refer to?

goog option plays for earnings week

Yepper, some good advice: I paper-traded that 580/590/689/690 IC on GOOG and see the impact of IV on delta as the underlying approaches the stop trigger (600) on the put side of the spread. OTM call side is fine, but the put side is under some pressure. Definately seeing the effect of IV, for...

    OTM VIX Options at expiration

I only traded VIX options once and it was a small bull put spread this past summer....it was my first BPS, actually, and yes, it was profitable. However, since there are others here who have written how goofy the VIX options are to trade, I suggest reading those informative spreads before...

Boycott CNBC next Monday and support FBN?

Just saw a few mins of FBC now that the market's open. I'm not impressed; definately looks more to the retail investor who doesn't know/care about anything other than Dow. Nasdaq, SP numbers. From what I can see, there's no streaming quotes, either, just prices on the "Fox 50" or something...

Boycott CNBC next Monday and support FBN?

I saw a few minutes of it this morning. First story I saw? The Democrats and the S-CHIP bill. Lots of recaps of the MLB games that I could care less about. Showing off the world's most expensive car in Times Square. Blah, blah, blah. As to the visuals: the data on the screen is...

goog option plays for earnings week

The options guy at TSCM was laying out a rather tight IC on GOOG in his model portfolio --- I wasn't exactly sure why....600/610/630/640 seemed way too constrictive for a stock that moves radically at earnings-time -- I'd never do one that tight on GOOG! Now, I could see doing an (much more...

    NEW LOW for CNBC

Sort of related, in terms of every day seems to show me a NEW LOW for CNBC........so I was more than a little happy to receive a letter from Comcast today saying that on 10/29 we're getting Bloomberg and Fox Business here in Northern Virginia. Thank gods -- I've been tuning out CNBC's rah-rah...

goog option plays for earnings week

I was looking at a simple bull put spread a few strikes OTM and closing no later than Thursday afternoon before earnings. Last time I held the spread through earnings and had GOOG move 40 points against me and I lost a fair amount on the spread. So from my view it's a conservative credit...

CNBC's "Fast Money" - horrid stock advice

Is it just me or has Macke become more hyper in recent weeks? More of the macho-talking-through-his-teeth-in-your-face than he used to be? I'm getting the impression that once Bolling left, the show really began to change for the worse. Now it actually feels like "Sports Center" than...
