Think or Swim Issues today? 8/17/20

My ToS is back up, 2 hours later. Will it last? Glad I don't do any active trading on it -- or had any positions needing attention this morning!

Think or Swim Issues today? 8/17/20

Yup, they've been down for over an hour. The only acknowledgement is a cut-and-paste response to complaints on Twitter. I was online no problem until about 0925 ET when I lost connectivity. Things were okay for me for years with them, but I'm flashing back to the dark days 6-8 years ago...

    R.I.P. - Don Bright

Never met him but his posts were cordial, polite, and his TASC columns rather informative. There was no ego from what I could see and he truly wanted to help people become better traders. RIP.

High fat, lower carb diet (grain free)

I read 'Wheat Belly' in October 2011 and decided to give that concept a go. I changed my eating habits in Feb 2012 by eliminating practically all the wheat products in my diet but otherwise not changing much about my lifestyle -- still worked out 3-4x weekly, drinking water, etc. I lost 25...

    Cramer is back at it

I feel sorry for anyone buying into the momentum stocks @ these levels and trying to overcome their Fear of Missing Out. Cramer et,al recommendations and pontifications aside, they're late to the game and likely will be disappointed when the tides turn. We're in year 5 of an insane, if not...

The BEST ES systems in the world

What's the best ES trading system these days? That's an easy one: whatever algos are able to shadow the Fed's daily POMO injections at 1030 and/or its 3:30PM just-to-be-safe ramp into the close. :) (sorry, it just had to be said.)

What can we expect for today in ES

Good morning! Due to changing trader sentiment carried over from the Asian and European sessions, this morning's [FIRM] analyst upgrade of [STOCK], algorithmic parsing of [HEADLINE], retail money flowing [IN/OUT] of [ASSETS], European leaders agreeing to [SOMETHING], fluctuations in the...

Has anyone used the "Bearish Butterfly" strategy with any degree of success?

That presumes there is a 'bearish' move in the market to make such a strategy work. Not really sure that's going to happen anytime soon....everything is on full-tilt-bull (FTB)[1] mode right now. [1] "Full-Tilt-Bull" is a term I use on many levels to describe the present...

Advantages and Disadvantages of TF Rusell 2000

Agree w/the comments here......and especially that the ICE data price for TF is highway robbery. Still, for my trading, I like the /TF. When it moves, it MOVES. Though sometimes (maybe 1-2/mo) slippage hits me on an exit, but that's life.

Investment Banks Eye 'Hedge Funds for the Masses’

The term 'muppet' comes to mind as I read that article.....caveat emptor! 'nuff said.

Anybody trade the Russell 2000 (TF)

I started trading ES in 2006 but switched to TF in 2010. I trade it pretty much as my main emini via mostly an automated system and sometimes w/disrecionary manual trades. For my trading style, it behaves well and trends much more nicely (imho) than the ES. Only major downside is sometimes...

Treasury's Miller: No banks will be bailed out

Knowing Washington as I do, it sounds nice, but I'll believe it when I see it.

    Thanks For The Old Forum

Old style is perfect ... fast, easy to read, functional. Was VERY happy to see its return when I accidentally clicked through after pretty much writing off the site following the change. IMHO the other version reminded me of AOL circa mid-90s. :(

    OOOOPS!! TD Ameritrade Margin Calls!!!

I've had that a few times on Mondays following them pushing out a new software update. First time I saw that I almost had a cardiac despite not having *anything* in that account that needed margin. I called the trade desk around 0730 and they were like "oh no worries, it'll sort itself out in...

Is it possible to make money automated trading?

LOL, if you want to get technical, yes. However even an airplane's autopilot gets turned on and off by the pilot, so it's not truly an "autopilot" either. :)

Is it possible to make money automated trading?

Bingo! You can't just develop something, throw it online, click "go" and expect it to work all the time. I trade an automated system (I lease it but as an engineer I pretty much know how it works) and am very pleased with the results this past year. However, when the markets got into...

    mini russell 2000

Only time I encounter major TF slippage is in a fast market when it hits my exit price and moves away quickly....so sometimes on a tight profit target (ie 2 points) on a scalp, I could see much of the gain taken away. However, using market orders to exit my morning TF trades has been pretty...

Newbie Question: Why is trading ES so popular?

Want wild? Want scary? Watch the Hang Seng during times of major financial crisis ... during major bad down days in '07 and '08, when compared to the Hang Seng, the DAX was in a persistent vegetative state. :)

Newbie Question: Why is trading ES so popular?

I think /ES is just the 'most well known' because it's a major index and is very liquid ... and "trading the S&P" just sounds awesome for newbies who want to feel like they're trading "with the big boys." *ducks* I don't see many ads/services that promote /YM or /CL trading as much as the /ES...
