i second both of these notion. i use them in real time all the time, every trading day, on every time frame, from the monthly chart to the 30seconds chart, with everything in the middle.

in the LU example that was posted, the significance is that since the price just hit the channel trendline, it is extremely likely to stall or reverse there, and therefore the new low just created is very likely to be a headfake. i.e. --> definitely don't short this new low, and expect a 2B...

that's the exactly the issue - they work for me so well but i cannot explain what is the logic behind them. i am forced to use them consistently because of their immense value to my trading, but i cannot explain why this tool i use works. and that bugs me.

only the actual price pattern will dictate to me when to pull the trigger. however, trendlines can help me know when NOT to pull the trigger. if price is about to hit a valid trendline, i can rest assured that there will be visible resistance there.

candles are unnecessary. just zoom into a lower time frame to see the price pattern that comprises the candle. you'll gain a much better understanding of the price movement, and thus improve your accuracy and eradicate a lot of false signals.
