Yes, I just started today. Please move to chit chat, thanks (for nothing).

    Dow Down Triple Digits Again

What is up with these ridiculous fear mongering headlines. Wouldn't it be more objective to simply say, Dow down 1%. Is that so unusual? Stocks Extend Losses in Volatile Session; Dow Down Triple Digits- http://finance.yahoo.com/ Small rant for today.

NASDAQ will cancel all trades executed...

Indeed, I just posted on a related thread. Mind boggling. How's that for a black swan?:D Good to know there are rock solid checks and balances in place in the financial casin... er.. markets. You can sleep soundly knowing your stops are there to protect you...

NASDAQ will cancel all trades executed...

Would be nice if there was a comprehensive list to go along with it. What's with the do over mentality?

S&P 500, VIX - Is the Market Collapsing?

Mind Boggling just how interconnected the markets are these days. I'd love to see a correlation tree for today's market.

S&P 500, VIX - Is the Market Collapsing?

Nice call here... I remember reading this and seeing something like 2% drop at the time.... Flash Forward. Vols Back.

    moving average on excel

Sub ma_timer() For i = 1 To 500 ma.Cells(i, 1) = tickers.Cells(12, 20) Next TimerOn 60000 End Sub Your module streams in 1 ticker at Cells(12,20) and updates then spits out the ma at Cells(i,1). I won't do all of the work for you , but all you basically need to do is read different...

In the past, how long until a 5% correction? (Poll)

There is a related observation I made on some thread a while back. That is to say that the duration of downcycles has been exponentially decreasing, while bust cycles have been exponentially increasing. They are not symmetrical. I.e. the static statistical properties are not necessarily a...

    Cointegration

I would change your analogy from too long to too far. It intuitively means there exists some linear combination of the pair, such that the net position will be a stationary and mean reverting process. Using this model, you could imagine shorting one and buying some multiple of the other as...

    avira isn't updating?

Not getting any updates here, it's been scanning for like 10 min+. Anyone else? Also, even though I installed ver 10, it never overwrote 9, as the version 9 shows up (and both I think were in english) in about list; any ideas or similar problems?

    I am re-shorting AAPL

Posted this pic in another thread, but maybe it'll help some of the newer posters see it from a different perspective: the stock was called RIMM. ---------------------------------- You'll see that those sky high prices which looked ripe for a fall, look like bargains in hindsight. If you...

Any charting tools that rotate 90%?

One way to unlearn this problematic bias is to take dynamic charts of some stock, (like rimm for example), and scroll backwards in time. You'll see that those sky high prices which looked ripe for a fall, look like bargains in hindsight. If you look at enough of these, it tends to help un-glue...

Any charting tools that rotate 90%?

why don't you just snapshot an image and rotate it in a screen-capture program? If you see any merit, you can easily swap the x-y axis in any plotting program (bars/candles are a bit more sophisticated). There are other ways to display data that might be useful, but I don't see any additional...

Hey shorts, I just want to ask you a couple questions. I promise I won't laugh..

From experience, I would also agree that now is not a good time to 'enter' a long position. Neither is it a good time to guess and bet on if the big short is just around the corner. I'm getting that feeling I had when I said all the four horsemen were way overbought in mid 07; I remember at...

Going long in both ultralong and ultrashort ETFs?

some monte carlo simulations were performed on this a bit back, showing why it's not a very good idea. http://intelligenttradingtech.blogspot.com/

    A truly riskless system?

Yes, you are right, I misread the tables. Thank you. Fair enough, pm me where to send it.

    A truly riskless system?

Sambian, You were kind enough to share some of your ideas, so I'll let you know some observations on your simulation that I believe are flawed. First off, I'm no expert on Forex, but it appears your conversion ratios are backwards. For instance, you have 1/2 the dollar amount on Fcell...

    Building your own trading computer

The best computers I've had are ones I've built. The problem as alluded to earlier, IMO, is that the cost is WAY more on building your own. In addition, you need to have things like tools (which aren't free), tie binds, grease for heatsink, OS, etc... All of those items add up. It's a shame...

    A truly riskless system?

After reading your original ideas a bit more, I see that we are on two different wavelengths. You did accidentally stumble on something very useful, but I don't think it's what you intended. Also, I don't believe buying the underlyings in ratios is equivalent to literally buying the two...

    A truly riskless system?

I must be missing something major here. Let me ask a simple question to any forex traders (I don't trade forex much). 1) Is it possible to purchase eur/usd and usd/eur instruments and simultaneously hold both? 2) Do they track very close to 1/X? Because, ignoring all the math arguments...
