    Random Trading

you might want to check for bias in the positions. You are simply using a random length window to sample the data. If the data has positive bias (which it should for your type of data), and you are taking both long and short slices of the same data population, the long bias will cause the net...

To paraphrase Thucydides... "might makes right" You're not the first to have such an epiphany.

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I.e. it is an inaccurate measure. Thanks for the corroboration, fellow Elite Trader. "In our opinion, flawed BLS survey results, month-after-month, do the public a huge disservice. While its results point to a slowly recovering economy, TrimTabs’ results point to a dangerously weak...

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

Glad to hear you don't give a rat's rear, nor did i expect you to.:D And the point was to address your question on how do you measure inflation. Admittedly, that was biased towards how inflation affects me. With regards to the 'rest' of the country have a look here...

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I compare the neccessary costs of living as an independent trader, which includes insurance premium hikes of 40%+/yr, and look at the 1% and lower inflation numbers reported each year. Somehow, the two don't seem to align. Have a look at the birth death index adjustment, and see...

    Question on exponential growth???

As explained earlier, yes! It's just another mathematical model that fits it well.

    Question on exponential growth???

It means the equity curve will mimic the well known exponential curve. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_function It is common in finance to model compounded returns as exponential. If you have a perfect risk free return per period, it grows exponentially, but at a very slow rate...

    Fractal nature of stock market...

Ironically, the properties of fractal behavior imply quite the opposite. As to anyone interested in fractal education (not the maligned TA version), what better source than reading literature from the original source himself, b. mandelbrot. There are several easily accessible layman's...

    Yang-Zhang volatility

If you are familiar with VBA, have a look here. http://excel.itags.org/microsoft-excel/105552/ It may not be perfectly functioning, but the meat is there. In addition, you may want to pick up "volatility trading," by E. Sinclair, as it addresses a lot of your questions, and might have the...

Hedge fund manipulation, not error, was behind market plunge

Your logic makes no sense whatsoever. Perhaps you ought to formulate your opinions based on reality and critical thinking, rather than "study after study." That being said, you really ought to reign that anger under control Mr. AngryCat. Have a nice day.

Hedge fund manipulation, not error, was behind market plunge

I don't. And for the most part, pretty good response. However, using a little bit of your common sense, do you really believe removing 80A and uptick were a good thing for markets? By your argument, that should have freed up MMs to provide more liquidity for a functional market. There are...

Hedge fund manipulation, not error, was behind market plunge

Come to think of it, that wasn't the most reputable article, just thought there were a few interesting conjectures. That being said, though, I'd be happy to read a post of the actual events that did cause the debacle. So if you are somehow more informed than the rest of us, please do post a...

    I've been robbed

In all fairness, they should bust both sides of the trade. I.e. anyone who bought long and had the trade busted should have the corresponding sell busted as well. Assuming OP scenario is true, there is a very valid complaint here. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see why it would be...

I need a program to ID HDD activity

If you can find and show an example of a source being utilized from the HDD and not showing up on task mgr, I'd be interested to see it. I assume you are referring to source as the running process name which can be located via search, rather than the absolute source path. I suppose an example...

Newsflash: Euro SOARS vs Dollar. (Really? 0.2% is soaring?)

Yes, I just commented on the Dow plummets to triple digit losses (which in percentage terms was about 1%) headlines the other day. One has to wonder if the journalists are intentionally deceptive or simply incompetent in their choice of colorful descriptions.

    leveraged ETFs

QID was on the list of NASDAQ broken trades yesterday. You might want to look into it. Really surprising to see that happen to a major index ETF. Even worse to see someone who made a successful bet under pressure, get his trade broken.
