Seeking advice on writing (and covering) short options

I think you're right. Here's an acronym. It's not as catchy as an ETF name or a Defense Dept project, but it's a start. PNITSS = probability, (but) not in the statistical sense

Seeking advice on writing (and covering) short options

I may have said this before in a similar Put_Master v. The World thread, but his style of investing/trading reminds me of a guy named Ron99 on the BigMike forum. Ron sells options on physical commodity futures and sometimes he trades futures. He's got a mega thread going and it's interesting to...

    Free carbonite style backup?

I saw New Zealand and thought of Kim Dotcom. Sure enough, that's his company. In the link below, he's the lard ass behind the letter M. Not sure if all his legal troubles are settled. https://mega.co.nz/#about

    Newbie here.

b/e = breakeven. For a simple, one-leg option transaction, if you sell a call, add the premium to the strike price and that's your b/e (commissions excluded). If you sell a put, subtract the premium from the strike price and that's your b/e.

Short 60 call for $1.50 in premium = $61.50 b/e If stock is 61 at expiration he's still ahead 50 cts or $50 per contract

    understanding selling puts

PM, You often mention the 'recovery' thing. Have you ever tried an alternative route of staying with the stock, i.e. when things head south, exit the current short put and roll down, plus maybe sell a call so you've got it strangled? I know you've done the research with the stocks, and you...

This takes the cake: http://www.ezcolortrading.com/partners.html scroll down to what she calls 'outdoor advertising' -- she seems to be proud of the fact that she plastered telephone poles with her business name.

    Mark Douglas: Any info?

"Mark has provided consulting services with Financial Trading Institutions, Investment Banks and firms such as" Two strikes against him. Be wary of someone who improperly capitalizes words to create a sense of importance and never trust a man with two first names. Rules to live by. :p

    daughter asks for advice

NewWurld (and fellow Minnesotan), I believe in past posts you've referred to direct work experience with an investment bank and also to some kind of business that uses petroleum products as a feedstock. In this back-and-forth about trading, and your comments about i-banks and hedge funds...

    daughter asks for advice

".... and can read people, and most importantly she can talk you into anything, a very good salesman ... " None of which is important if she's considering trading her own account from home. Is she passionate about the markets or is she just looking for a different way to make a living? As...

My 2013 Option Trades.... part 3

OK, Thanks. I thought I remembered reading that your system works best with $25-$40 strike prices, so $70 seemed out of the range. A mix of margined and cash-secured puts would seem to diminish the importance of a pre-trade ROI calculation, but maybe you're just using that as a hurdle...

My 2013 Option Trades.... part 3

Re VMware, good trades. Did you consider these on-margin or cash-secured trades? I'm curious because the strikes seem to be more than 2x your normal selling range.

how to hedge against oil price collapse?

This is related so some of the Q&A earlier in the thread. Do you need a full hedge and does it need to be put into place all at once? I mention this for two reasons: - If you've studied the 2008 oil price run up and collapse, you'll see that it took about five months to fall from $148...

    Good option platform?

This thread prompted me to poke around some web sites I hadn't visited in a while. It may be old news but OptionVue now allows Interactive Broker customers to use the IB data feed. The standard OpVue software still costs $1000 and the interchange with IB is $60/mo or $50/mo if you pay a year...

    Grains & Corn

I weep for the ongoing demise of the Wall Street Journal. Some knucklehead photo editor threw in a picture of a couple of dudes eating elote (Mexican sweet corn), which is quite different from the type of corn mentioned in the article. Other than that, the quote-meister they rang up to get...
