    historical crop estimates

They definitely have what you're looking for. Google USDA WASDE. Go directly to the USDA site that contains those monthly reports OR to the Mann Library site (at Cornell) which has been a back-up or mirror or some kind of repository for years. The reports are available in pdf, csv/Excel and I...

IB customers lose 68m on Spore stocks

$68 million? That's chump change. Yesterday IB credited me with a $234 million dollar gain from a small position in Weight Watcher (WTW) stock options. I didn't even make a trade in them yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the windfall until the banks were closed and it was too late for a...

    Meredith Whitney Hedge-Fund

It sounds like a lack of focus or ignoring the old saying about "don't believe all your press clips." First the advisory group, then research, I read that she established a broker/dealer, and now a hedge fund. Edit: And she wrote a book "Fate of the States" that was released in June 2013.

Current Implied Volatility and Implied Volatility percentile in tastytrade

For an overview of IV and HV history, this site might do the trick. They present the data from ivolatility.com without the &$(@)#* blinking ads that pollute the ivolatility site. http://www.optionseducation.org/tools/historical_implied_volatility.html As noted in posts above, you can also...

Have any of you read these books?

First book in the list above: I don't know if the authors can write well, but these are the same people who run Moore Research Center. If you're interested in learning about spreads, their monthly subscription is very reasonable - about $35. Tons of historical information, trade ideas, seasonal...

    KC Wheat

Yes, HRW (KC) has seen strong exports, but I think the recent surprise has been SRW (Chgo). Lots sent to Brazil, which has more than made up for missing virtually all of the Egyptian business. The following link will open directly to a large .pdf (maybe 35 pages). Scroll down to page 22 or so...

    KC Wheat

U.S. exports of wheat for this marketing year (beginning June 1) are very strong. Also, there are increasing concerns about planting conditions (meaning future export competition) in parts of the Black Sea region. For a fundamental overview of several agricultural commodities...

    Corn tick size

Jack - I don't know why some quote services still use the '2 format. It's been a while since I visited a trading pit; maybe the monitors and big boards surrounding the pits still use that format, too. Another head-scratcher: Last week, same day, same account, same contract, I traded some corn...

    Corn tick size

Exactamundo. You might see a zero ('0), but that just means a whole cent - 434 and 435 in your examples immediately above.

    Corn tick size

Once upon a time, data transmission was very expensive and priced by the character. Plus there may have been space constraints on quote boards and old CRTs. Neither of those reasons exist anymore - I guess it's just tradition and inertia.

    Corn tick size

You should see '2, '4 and '6 to denote fractions of a cent in the futures contract prices. You should not see '8. In options, which are traded in eighths, you'll see '1 to '7; again, you should not see '8 Futures example: 434'6 = $4.3475/bushel (dollars per bu). Some quote services display...

    Options trading for a living

What do you think T.S. in TSLexi means? Whatever floats the boat, but someone might be in for a surprise.

    Optionshouse VIX

VIX VXN and RVX work fine for me with no special punctuation. Edit: I just checked and they don't appear in a drop down menu if you're trying to add them to a watch list. Just type in VIX and hit "add" and it will populate the watch list. It's an oversight or a bug that needs to be fixed.

    Any cotton experts?

Nobody owns the entire supply chain, or put another way, the information derived from that chain, for a particular commodity. That's different than company ABC who knows more than anyone else about its suppliers, customers, technology, prospects, etc and its executive actions and utterances can...

    Any cotton experts?

I don't think there's much you can do. - If you have non-public information from a US govt source, disseminating it or trading on it is illegal. - Corporate inside information doesn't exist in the commodity market like it does in the stock market - Even if you knew we were about to...

    RJO Futures' strange commission schedule

Understand. No argument from me. And thanks for the story about trying to do biz direct with RJO. I might try again (and OFTHOMAS provided some ideas) but it sounds like you and I might not be in one of their preferred segments, which seems to consist of newbies, institutions/large commercials...

Yes, this pertains to retail rates, but for an experienced, independent (fulltime) "retail" trader.

Vision Financial Markets - CFTC Takes Ages to Act

The guy with the Greek last name posted that on Twitter a few days ago (he's the guy heading the MF Global customer coalition). I read the whole complaint and it's astounding how long Vision was aware of, and ignored, the crap the IB/CTA was dishing out to its clients. Also, some of the...

    RJO Futures' strange commission schedule

RJO Futures recently released a trading platform called RJO Futures Pro. It appears to be a re-branded version of CQG Interactive Client, or perhaps somewhere between CQG Trader and CQQ IC. I'm not an expert on CQG features, but the RJO product does have charts and a pretty decent options...

    Electricity Futures

One firm that specializes in this type of thing is Pace Global, which was acquired by Siemens in 2012. I had some preliminary conversations with them when I bought natural gas for a manufacturing company. We didn't move forward with a project because by then gas was beginning its long slide...
