    Japan Is Already In Depression

It's surprising, but anything less than 8% or so growth in China would be regarded as a recession and of huge concern for the government. Due to the ongoing massive influx of people from the rural areas into the cities, China needs the hyper growth in order to accomodate the millions of new...

Interactive Brokers Closed All Open Positions

I just spoke recently to IB about MOC orders and was told that MOC orders are factored in when calculating if you're account is within their overnight margin limits. I've used MOC orders everyday for months now and have yet to be liquidated, even when leveraged to the hilt. So, if this...

Time To Suspend Mark To Market Bush

The problem with mark-to-market is that due to the leverage regulations for financial institutions, a drop in your capital (as a result of M2M losses) means that you have to either raise more capital or deleverage, which results in firesale prices of MBSs and credit tightening. Suspending M2M...

What the? Why aren't SPY and QQQQ shortable?

Because they both have significant holdings in financials, which are currently banned from shorting.

    Failin' With Palin

If you're so "curious", did you dig into Obama's background? I think you'll find that his self-packaging as being a "new kind of politician that can transcend party lines" rings particularly hollow.

    Trading For Living - S&P 500 Market.

T4L how many contracts do you trade? I noticed that in your zip files there were only a handful of trades per month, so I would assume you must do significant size. Also, are you living off your trading income, or is it just to supplement your existing income? Thanks!

    TRADER MONTHLY BROKE? doubledown folds???

Sykes and Lane -- two insignificant Wall St. hotshot wannabes getting into a pissing match. It gets pretty catty on the D-list. I flipped through a Trader Monthly issue at the bookstore and was annoyed at how pretentious it was. And why name your company "Doubledown"? They predicted their...

Best way to recover from a big losing day??

I've traded my system successfully for over 3 years now (4 yrs if you include backtesting), so when I do have blowouts it's easy to put them behind me and focus on the next day (assuming the blowout was not due to poor execution). Prior to that, I would take a big blowout by: 1) Walk...

    Yahoo finance

I've been using it for a few months now. The annoying thing is that it'll randomly stop working for upwards of an hour at times, and to get the most recent quotes you have to click the refresh button. When it does work it's great because you can have up to 200 tickers at a time instantly updating.

Do not use tradelog for your taxes

I've used tradelog for 2yrs now and have had no complaints. They've tried very hard to keep up with IBs constant changes to their reports presentation. I also like the reports you can generate with the software. Considering that Tradelog and Gainskeeper cater to a small pool of active...

Tracking the performance of multiple strategies

Great idea vikana. If I don't use the API and just use the basket order, would I still be able to get OCA info on the trade and portfolio export reports?

Tracking the performance of multiple strategies

I currently employ multiple day/overnight trading strategies, and the only way I can track the performance of each strategy is by entering them in a massive excel spreadsheet and tagging each trade with the associated strategy. Is there an easier way of accomplishing this? I use IB, and I...

Anybody else having problems with theflyonthewall.com?

Thanks Bob111. At least this'll help a little. I couldn't find their phone number. And I also have gotten no responses from them via email.

Document every trade detail to the IRS?

I have about 7300 trades for the year, but I'm sure that's nothing compared to some of the day traders out there. Can any of the active daytraders comment on my OP? Do you include every trade detail in your schedule D/4797, or just the summary info?

Document every trade detail to the IRS?

I'm not concerned about generating the documentation, as I already have the software. My question is that does it benefit me at all to submit that stack of paper to the IRS, because it'll be a MASSIVE return.

Document every trade detail to the IRS?

I usually just put a lump sum on my schedule D/4797 with a footnote saying "detailed trades available upon request", but I think I read somewhere (maybe Green Trading or something) indicating that the IRS is clamping down on traders so report all individual trades on your return. What are other...
