    Help needed with probability math

There are many versions and variations of CLT. The requirements of identical distribution are the "weak" constraints where the "independency" is the strong constraint. CLT will work in most cases for any large number of independent variables regardless of their distributions. However, the OP...

Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

Yes and no. There are no games that could be constructed on the 50/50 coin toss type of a process that have positive (or negative) expectations in the long (indefinite) run. The expectation for any strategy based on a 50/50 coin toss game is always zero (providing of course that we are not...

    local extrema detection

There you go. Actually, once you programed a FIR filter you will be pleasantly surprised by its usefulness for many types of signal processing. I am a big fan of them. Also, if you have MATLAB this might be useful. http://billauer.co.il/peakdet.html Cheers, MAESTRO

    local extrema detection

A bit more sophisticated solution than centered MA cross over is using the FIR filters. I had always used them in the past for both noise filtering and sharp edge detection. If you don't mind programming one it will do the trick for you. Cheers, MAESTRO

    Chess and the Stock Market

That is indeed a fascinating topic. One of my dearest friends - Ron Henley - a grandmaster of chess and ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Henley ) who is in very close relationship with all the best chess players in the world including Karpov and Kasparov has always been my sounding board for...

    Is Trading Just Guessing?

Well, with the risk of sounding too weired I actually liked this book http://www.amazon.ca/Source-Field-Investigations-David-Wilcock/dp/0525952047 I was involved in the similar research in 80s and always felt that it could be very useful in the market decision making process. However...

    Question for Neural Net Users

In this case you do n't need NN. All you need is Bayesian tools and straight forward "if - then" type of logic. Have you tried Prolog as a tool?

    Question for Neural Net Users

Certainly, I actually wrote a book in 1987 on this subject; it's too bad that it is not in English (I never got to translating it). In short: When you go to the library, for example, there are shelves with books placed according to their subject, alphabet order, ISBN number etc. The groups...

    Question for Neural Net Users

A very good point indeed! Invention is still out of reach for machines, however, proving the invention being right or wrong is best done with their help! :)

    Question for Neural Net Users

Here is my 2 cents. Any kind of machine learning could do taxonomy (well, not well, poor etc.) providing that the classes are well defined in advance. However, the key is not taxonomy, but meronomy where the classes could be generated and named. Hypothesis generation is the hardest part of any...

    Trading Math - Part I

What I don't understand is why there is so much anger? I have yet seen a thread in my 8 years here at ET that would not end up in the mutual insults and outright anger! That is why I do not participate in these discussions anymore although I have much to say on the subject. I have studied the...

    Why Capitalism Is Failing

It has nothing to do with capitalism, socialism, feudalism etc. It has everything to do with the objective and universal law of accumulation and distribution of wealth! All other words are just made up motives, fake conclusions and emotions! This is why we have what we have now! It is the...

Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

Thanks for the paper. The log-normal distribution is the most accurate representation of the price behavior IMHO. There are, however, a few very simple methods to normalize this data to fit the normal curve. It is much more practical. But even without this conversion the log-normal character of...

    its all about pure math

I think intradaybill had a very legit question, however, there is no straight answer to it. I have a few papers written on the subject and, believe me, it is not an easy topic. I approached it from the RW stand point of view with the volatility modulated steps and variable BIAS (probability of...

    its all about pure math

It could be interesting. It is very rare to see any serious math discussions here. So far I see bunch of squiggly lines on the chart and no math. Could you please explain the math premise? Cheers, MAESTRO

Who is really making a living trading options??

I can back that statement up by 20 years of research, thousands of psychological experiments we have conducted and the experience we get from our in-house prop trading group that uses "Informed Simplicity" gauges to trade. "The weakest link in the computer is outside the computer" Amen...

Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

Very, very good! Not very many picked up on that! I always use this equation to illustrate the relationship between phi, pi and e. I just love these kind of tricks to show the beauty of simple math.
