So I set up my 401k at age 18

Seems like the consensus here is to not put your retirement money into IRAs (unless you have to rollover a 401(k) to an IRA after changing jobs or if you inheirit an IRA to create a stretch) but rather manage your own liquid accounts and pay longer term capital gains tax instead - provided you...

    Augment Trading with Real Estate

I was curious how many ETers also manage Real Estate investments in addition to or to augment their trading. I am doing ok trading but looking to add cash flow positive Real Estate to my portfolio in the coming year with the low rates and depressed prices. My thought is to own rental...

    Trading Similar to Sales Career?

A friend of mine linked trading to a career in sales. Both have high risks, a lot of wash outs, hard repetitive work and no guaranteed income. Both require an edge/strategy/system to eventually gain confidence and prevail. Failure rate in both is high. Thoughts on this relationship?

    Job Satisfaction -

I agree with everything here but I do miss admiring the nice looking girls on the L in the morning now that I am at home trading full time.

I forgot to add, I love to say the word "doji". I can't stop laughing over it. Good trading today!

    The Reasons Why I Trade

-I don’t believe in trading time for money -I don’t believe in “my time” and “company time” – all time is how I choose to spend it -The 9 to 5, 40 hour work week is archaic -“Face time” does not equal productive time. No more clock watching. -No politics, meetings...

    Clueless U of IL professor

Hasn't this so called "professor" ever heard of technical analysis? Also, he interchanges the use of the word "trader" with "investor". Shouldn't be teaching. Thoughts? http://www.news.uiuc.edu/news/07/0920investing.html

so many n00bs who want to

110K in capital is nothing to sneeze at given how many people in this country are on the other side of the equation. However, it isn't much to gloat over. I have saved and traded my way to $225K and I still skip the morning Starbucks to save.

Single, Capitalized and wanting to get started

If one was serious about trading on their own (strategy irrelevant for the moment) and had about $200K in capital, single and no debt how would you proceed?

Hedge Fund shoes. Get a pair.

LOL...check out this customer review I didn't know quite what to expect of the Hedge Fund, but it was time for a change. My old pair, the Mutual Fund, was looking a bit frayed around the edges. Sure, the old kicks were comfortable, still got me from place to place, and a pair of Mutual Funds...

The Dow Was Untradeable This Week!!!

Borat would agree. They take everybody's money and never give it back. Without them taking retail traders money this week a significant amount of price action is gone from the market.

    choosing a career path

If you are making those kind of returns (assuming you have a decent amount of capital) why work on wall street? Why waste time and energy doing admin non-sense and laying out nearly 100K for an MBA that could be better leveraged in the markets or several years of your life getting a CFA if you...
