Is it conventional wisdom that a currency pair with a larger *normal* spread (for example, AUDJPY 4 pips) less volatile than a smaller spread pair (for example GBP 1.5 pips).
I feel that there is less volatility but wanted to get some thoughts from some of the more seasoned fx traders.

But what happens when a trader keeps making money? Does the bucketshop still lose money??? or do they switch them over to inter-bank trade executions??

I think that the best / safest broker is Deutsche Bank -- they have a guarantee on funds up to 1 Billion Euro -- now whether you are good enough a trader is something else
At least you don't have to worry about your broker going broke!

I got an email from FXCM stating the new margin rules for traders...
Does this affect US traders only or do traders with the UK subsidiary also get affected by the new margin rules?

I think the spirit of my original question was misguided.
I'm currently at FXCM with a mini-account so all my trades are against the broker - so how do I know when my account is switched over to regular status (aka commission)?
Of course this is based on the premise that my trading skills...
Anybody have any thoughts or feedback?
They claim to have an ECN model for transactions - in other words, no dealing desk???
Is this for real or just clever marketing?
How safe (financially stable) is this company?
How do I figure out if my trades are being routed to a liquidity provider versus the broker's dealing desk?
In other words, how do I know when my fx trading account is just like any other normal trading account?

Can you clarify what you mean by money not being returned?
Do you mean that brokers never honored a wire request? And if so, which brokers? I can't imagine this happening at the big firms such as Gain, GFT, FXCM, etc
