    The Next Leg Down?

I really expected the market to reverse at some point to-day. started accumulating on the way down. did not sell out at end of day. i would expect a gap up or some sort of reversal tomorrow as well....worst sell off since the 1970's.... in Toronto we were -9.3%. After a reversal, we...

how will Canada fare if global economy collapses?

China is doing cutting edge research on extracting oil from oil sands. They have wanted to buy into this for awhile. They have purchased other companies. We are much less dependent on the US than previously. Note how we have a government surplus...plus the strongest banks in the world...

Market Should Have Strong Rally This Week

never thought i'd see the day, but i have to agree with stocktrader this once, the gm bailout may be the impetus to restore the market rally. a market retracement was widely expected t0-day....could not believe we would pull back to this degree....but that's the VIX for you. Most are...

If you were going to kill yourself, how would you do it?

I went to a suicide prevention workshop a while back, and we discussed "is suicide ever rational?" I would have to agree with euthanasia....saw my dad suffer, and suffer. This happens with many patients. Even heart patients tend to die a much slower death to-day (congestive heart failure...

    2 Gold Spikes

I have followed gold closely for over 20 years and used to be a perma gold bug. At some point, in the future, a bit of gold in one's retirement acct may make sense. (Gold broke a multiyear uptrend awhile ago, which makes me presently pessimistic). However, at the moment, I have to agree...

Swiss likely to approve prescription heroin

One of the benefits of a methadone programme is that it saves the government a great deal of money. Not the least, is that many people do work, can look after their kids, etc. And yes, there is a thin line between proper pain management and addiction. Not all people who become "addicted"...

Selling the dow over the weekend...

the tricky thing about trading with the VIX around 55 is that there are gaps almost every morning...plus, we have just had the largest successive rally since 1933... I've noticed that when we got 2 consecutive days which were brutal, the market would rally the next day...

    2 Gold Spikes

just before gold moved up $50 last week (and I lost big time), gold had been having these spikes up on a daily basis. Was also surprised to see the spikes up to-day. I subscribe to an EW site, which states that gold may spike up a few more dollars, but is on track to move much lower. I...

When Are we going to deal with issue of ET addictiveness

definition of addiction is actually classified as either one of abuse or dependence....you carry on despite harm in your life. well, i could be doing more exercise, or spending time with folks/people/nature/meditating. to be good at something, a certain amount of obssessiveness is common...

UK Government To Bail Out Royal Bank of Scotland

Wow! Never thought RBS would collapse....My experience with Scots, is that they tend to be extremely frugal, and are usually flush with cash. Times, they are a changin'

Who has started out with nothing, learned how to trade on their own, and now makes $?

I like the idea of getting a backup job where you can work weekends, evenings so you are free to participate in the markets. This way you can take time off from trading which I find very valuable. And, you are less fearful of loosing money. For inspiration, I go to the net and google...

    Black friday

after a modest gap down, the canadian market was up over 100 pts to-day. i was, also, expecting a down day...thought the lack of liquidity would not support higher prices. Wrong. Mondays are frequently down days.

How can Nikkei 225 not recover after so many years?

Why would you buy corporate debt in this area of dubious credit? Preferreds still are the no. 1 on the food chain.

What lags and what does not?

Now, I know that Random Walk is taught in schools to-day, so most would subscribe to it. I think there is some merit in knowing the markets can basically do whatever. Personally, what makes me money is Elliott Wave and Gann, but mostly Elliott Wave. There are 11 different scenairos, but I...

How can Nikkei 225 not recover after so many years?

Good discussion! So, the US may still have hope if the dollar appreciates over the other currencies (which I think it will, except for JPN). This would help with the debt. Also, it sounds as though debt conpared to GDP is not that bad in US. Somehow, I have not given up on the US...like...

If you were going to kill yourself, how would you do it?

l've never used cocaine, nor do i know how to get it, but would have to think that this would be the best way to go....except you would feel so good, you might change your mind...and then it would be too late

    The Next Bubble

well, i was around during the savings and loan debacle....astounded the US inflated themselves out of it. perhaps, they can now deflate themselves out of this. in any case, the world will survive, and prosper once again. cycles are key....time seems to solve things.
