    how are your quotes today

Posted to a couple of other threads, but I've noticed the NMS prints being 10-50+ cents off the current inside market. THis give these W-I-D-E price bars with the current bar jumping all over the map. Tried typing XYZ=N (I use eSignal), but am concerned I'm not getting the whole picture this...

    Nyse issues

I use eSignal, and most of the NMS prints are late. Sometimes 5 minutes or more, even though NMS stock trades are supposed to be reported within 90 seconds. So I've seen NMS prints 20-50+ cents off the current market, which gives you those wild, wide bars. I switched my charts to XYZ=N, so...

NMS late reporting the last two sessions??

Kind of new to equities trading, and just wanted to make sure I'm seeing this right: I'm watching NYSE listed stocks, and the NMS reports trades that are 50+ cents off the inside market. I think they're supposed to report within 90 seconds if it's a NMS stock, so these have got to be WAY...

    ETFs tick size and value

Forgive a stupid question, but I've looked in Yahoo, and Google, and can't seem to find this. Wher can I find the tick size and value for: SPY IWM QQQQ The one I was able to find was SPY. It looks like it trades in penny (.01) increments, just like stocks, and is based upon 100 shares...

Esignal support the worst there is ?

I've had good luck with the Liverep Support. They've been able to answer al my questions, wait is usually less than 2-3 minutes for them once yuo log on. Since I'm "tecnologically challenged," I'm on eSignal when I talk to them so I can try out what they're telling me while on the program...

Trading breakouts, scanning for potential trades

How do I trade breakouts? Unless there's significant ( but not excessive) volume attached to these - I fade them as the volume dries up or there's high volume but no further price advances in the direction of the breakout.

    throwing in the fkin towel!!!

Hi austin, Yuo make some good points, and yes, floor trader do tend to trade the way you describe. The really good ones however, use a great deal of discretion and judgment, and did not just relexively trade as you describe. Most of the guys I knew who were actually good floor traders...

    throwing in the fkin towel!!!

Quoted from austinp: Ex-floor traders seem to struggle more than any other profession when it comes to retail trading. Everything they learned = did on the floor which worked to facilitate order flow absolutely gets them killed on our side of the screens. Unlearning old tactics and embracing...

the risk of not taking enough risk starting out

Yuo might be interested in Ryan Jones' The Trading Game. He uses a money managemnt scheme that supposedly helps people's accounts grow faster. I'm just reading it now, and have no opinion one way or the other at this point on how valid his approach might be, but it sounds like it addresses...

does volume head price or price lead volume?

Mark, A great post! Yuo have always been one of the real thinkers here on ET - I always enjoy reading your comments, and have never failed to get something meaningful to consider from them. Good posts in this thread by you, too, Bear!

does volume head price or price lead volume?

bighog, Let me "whip this on you"...(sheesh) I was a futures floor trader for a number of years. One of the favorite trick of the locals was to trade ONE contract back and forth between us to get higher (or lower) prints on the board. Why do you think we did this and why was it generally...

3:1 risk / reward. How do you personally use stops

How can anyone say in advance that a trade they haven't put on yet has a 3:1 (or 4:1, or 15:1, or...) risk to reward ratio? How can you possibly project your potential reward before the market has unfolded? I'd venture to say that even projecting your risk is only likely to be slightly...

    Bromides that are pure BS

Profit targets - nothing more than guesses and/or wishful thinking. Getting into a trade with the idea you can project where to take profits is delusional. All you can do is manage a trade once it's on, and respond as the market unfolds.

    NYSE Open Book

My limited experience with OpenBook is that it is, at times, even ahead of the T & S tape on eSignal. It also will occasionally show things like the bid being higher than the ask for a few seconds.

Learning about ECNs and Market Makers
