Put a Pencil in Your Mouth...

This is a very astute question. First I don't believe behavior is just a by product of our thoughts. Emotions can overwhelm all thought and cause unexpected behavior. We are hard wired for pain avoidance and pleasure seeking so most of us have a knee-jerk reaction to our emotions. If...

    Wyckoff's Monster

Here is the 5000 tick chart of the NQ. It has the same channel drawn on it as on the hourly of various SLA threads. We exceeded 3415 without collapsing. Perhaps it is time for a visit to the other side of the mean?

Put a Pencil in Your Mouth...

For those of you unfamiliar with Phantom of the Pits - here is a link to his e-book... http://www.earnforex.com/forex-e-books/forex-market/phantom_of_the_pits.pdf In the preface he states, "Most traders think the important element in success is knowledge. In my trading career I have found...

Put a Pencil in Your Mouth...

Behavior modification is basically reverse engineering solutions to emotional problems. If you are chronically unhappy you will move your face and body in certain ways (frowning, head down, shoulders slumped etc.) Behavior modification is accomplished by using our body and face to change our...

Put a Pencil in Your Mouth...

This thread is intended to be about behavior modification. It's not a place for debate. If you read these ideas and think they are hogwash there is no need to comment. If you have interest in these ideas or have your own ideas feel free to contribute. Also - if you try any of the techniques...

    Wyckoff's Monster

Can some explain why there is a noticeable difference between the same channel drawn on different time frames? I'm including a daily and a 4 hour chart. More importantly - when determining the mean of the channel should which chart is king?

    Why good platforms ignore mac?

A comparable mac will run windows faster than a pc. It is because the Mac OS is built on top of unix rather than DOS. I'm not saying its worth the markup but the guy already has a mac so...

    Wyckoff's Monster

I've decided to switch back over to tick charts. I know this isn't pure SLA. I've done a week's worth of testing on it and it still looks like it is working well. I'm just much more comfortable watching a tick chart. The peaks and valleys tend to be better defined and I've found myself...

    Why good platforms ignore mac?

Investor RT is the best thing available to mac users. Thinkorswim has issues. You can do what I do and boot your mac in windows mode. Macs actually run windows faster than PCs so there is no downside to this.

    Wyckoff's Monster

Prep for the week... I'm including a monthly chart. We haven't visited the lower part of this channel since 2010 but the mean is around 3250. Next comes the daily. Again - whether the blue channel is back in play is unclear. The last two swings did go from the mean to the upper parallel...

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

You need to PM Niko as he runs the chat. He may still be out of town. He'll break it down for you.

    Section 7

Hey Trip - rather than clutter the SLA thread I will post here if that's okay. Db made the comment that he sees tons of lines being posted that are extraneous and possibly counter-productive. I've tried it both ways - not drawing the lines and drawing the lines. I prefer the second. I...

    Wyckoff's Monster

I'm not really interested in debating whether trading without ego is the right path, possible or whatever. I believe that it is right for me. I agree with Siuya that you cannot suppress emotions. This is like trying to use willpower to fall asleep. You can become much more aware of your...

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

Redneck I know you come in peace and we don't need to endlessly debate a difference of opinion. I'm just adding my two cents. From my experience with poker (I did a fair amount of coaching) there were a lot of players that would play 6 tables or more at once in an effort to accelerate...

    Section 7

I do pretty much the same thing you do. I have a much more detailed notebook journal IRL. I realized if I wanted to have an effective journal I couldn't post it on-line because I just am not willing to reveal that much of myself publicly. I also agree that the work needs to be done...

    Wyckoff's Monster

ammo - I appreciate the comments as always. Somewhere along the way you got the idea that I struggle with emotional control - most likely because of the video I posted. I don't personally think emotions are a factor in my trading. My biggest hole is that I haven't done enough work in applying...

    Wyckoff's Monster

ammo - I agree with all of your points. Macro is important even in day trading and could be the difference between marginal and exceptional results. In my poker days I spent a lot of time working on my emotional game well after my strategy was well developed. IMO it's a harder than parking a...

Relatively liquid and volatile future markets

ZS has bigger moves in a smaller trading session than ES with the same tick value. Liquidity if fine during the day session.

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

It takes buyers and sellers to move price. We had very big moves this week. I would think a lot of the big players went home around lunchtime. Price always is moving from contraction to expansion or if you prefer from ranging to trending. I don't see today as out of character.

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

As Db has said AMT isn't a system unto itself. It's just a road map. It integrates well with SLA but SLA isn't dependent on AMT.
