How can struggling daytraders cope with the social stigma of being called losers?

There may be a 1/4% tax...who knows? They've been talking about it for years. That being said, Last week, I was happy to see a guy like Bill Ackman on CNBC touting the need for shorter-term traders because they provide the liquidity that funds of his size need to exit and enter positions. If the...

Finished realized +$1547.33 (still open $119.00) Good day. Decent finish to the month. Automated trading was good this month. Looking forward to tomorrow/next month after all that I've learned this month psychologically and strategically. Maybe the late Feb volatility will continue into March...

I agree for the most part. If everyday fears (fear of approaching women, fear of public speaking, etc...) pervade your daily life and you never confront those fears, I could see how it will also be an integral part of your approach to the market. You bring all your baggage to the market...good...

Friday's take: -$2827.91 I raised my size a bit on Friday and I traded the same for the most part. The worst thing about the beginning of the day was that I ended up getting a disproportionate amount of losers early on than usual and I knew I was having a rough day without seeing my P&L. I...

    My Path To Success

You can risk 25% of your capital on any given trade while risking only 2% of your overall capital on the trade. You can take large concentrated positions that way and still manage your risk well. Holding on to your losers until they become winners? This is going to be an entertaining journal.

    Trader P/L 2011

Bad morning after raising size in new strat. First bad day with this strat ever since I've started. I will be doing the same thing on Monday. I didn't keep trading and let the odds work for me. Soon this strat will be fully automated and I can remove my emotions from it all. Not posting a...

    ElecEquity's Active Trading Journal

Another great post. Although I've had one great year and two mediocre years during my career, (doesn't include the first year when I was barely breakeven) I never looked at trading as an odds game -- I always focused on the little picture (the individual trade) and never realized that I should...

A great post....result of lurking on ET. It really hits home for me and is further confirmation that this is my #1 hurdle and has been my #1 hurdle even after having a great year in 2008 (who didn't?). Even when the people around tell me that I'm good BUT I've been risk-averse. I tried to...

Today's results: -Two hundred in something Today I traded well and had a few computer glitches early on but I still managed to have some nice trades. I finished pretty much flat on the day---BUT after looking at some of the late day signals, I slacked off quite a bit in the last hour and...

    Elitetrader Android/iPhone app

True. I have an Android with a large screen. I bet that a creative app could make it slighty easier to navigate ET. On 2nd thought, ET not having it's own app is probably a good thing.

I think raising margin requirements had a lot to do with the selloff.

Hmmmm....30% loss in one day shouldn't surprise anyone after statements such as the one he made above. I'm not making light of your losing btw dude. Good luck to you. But you're going to have to manage risk. Without protecting the downside, eventually it will come back to bite you in the arse.

    Success/Failure

Lol I know. Today, in his journal, he lost 30% of his starting capital in one day. I checked out that link to his Predictor Discretionary ETF and it says the chance of a 30% loss is 0.0%....oddly enough he managed to somehow pull that 30% loss on day 2 of his journal. He can't be more than 16...

How can struggling daytraders cope with the social stigma of being called losers?

No offense EMR, but a failed daytrader is hardly qualified to call our profession a dying one simply because he failed. My guess is that you have no idea how successful daytraders actually make money. If you do know, or you did know, and you weren't able to do it, then that's another conversation.
