    Best to get industry experience as a Trader first at a good firm IMO . . . It's easier than being self-taught and you'll learn from those around you. Then going out on your own is easier. Good Luck!

    Just limit orders isn't enough. Smart-router at IB will give price improvement over the bid-ask spread generally. Limit orders resting on an exchange can benefit from smart-routers that re-route if they see it's marketable on another venue.

    Do you do TCA(Transaction Cost Analysis) on your executions? If you're unclear on the cost of your broker's routing procedures, why not quantify it?

    True but what about measuring price improvement over NBBO? If what gives you significant improvement over a big sample than that would rank alot higher.

    It's true that it's hard to quantify. However in professional settings, Transaction Cost Analysis(TCA) is a big thing to help measure the effectiveness of the Smart Router. Most discount brokers will never provide this to their clients as it shines a light on the sub-par executions.
