Is fully automated trading a fantasy? Your opinions here

There are many companies running automated trading systems profitably. Today's big trading success often meens automation in fact. TradeBot is an example:http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/moneycenter/story.html?id=3498 Vlad Jovanovic's bot is an other example ...

    daytrader loses it all.

He might want to create his own fund now... As Nick Leeson said for his come back, " you can't imagine the number of persons that want me to manage their money". You have to lose big to be recognized:p For real, sad story when you think he blew his parents life...But he totally deserved it.

Is fully automated trading a fantasy? Your opinions here

I think( but not sure ) that profitable discretionnary traders are close to a mechanical approach, even if they don't acknowledge it... They are not changing their setups every day. They have found a method that suited their personnality, and the "unmechanical" improvements are quite...

Typical slippage faced by automated systems?

I don't trade stocks but I think the number of missed fills is only related to your place in the book, and the frequency of sending new limits. For example on futures like ES, your limit buy order would never get filled on the low of the bar if your order has been sent only 2 minutes prior...

Cheapest broker on ag futures ?

On electronic contracts, I think there is no fundamental difference among brokers. You buy at the current ask and sell at the current bid... Execution speed is not so important in my opinion. You just pay the bid/ask spread and slippage related to speed can be positive as well as negative...

    Tradestation

High frequency trading, which means 5 + trades a day( to me ). I run different systems which produce about 100 trades a year each, so I have just a couple of orders sent every day. As you can read, It's not a good habit to let the platform run, but after several without a single bug, I...

    Tradestation

TS is good for testing and the automation is reliable. You can go away for the day and watch your P§L in the evening as soon as your systems don't make too much trades. The execution with RJ O Brien ( TS clearing agent ) is bad and the customer service is not good either. Does TS provides...
