Account up +46,9% since beginning of 2004

Actually, it matters a great deal. 40% on 1 trade tells us nothing about the trader's skill. 40% on 100 trades tells us a great deal about a trader's skill. Simple example if I make 1 trade for a 40bp profit tgt/loss stop and lever up 100x, I have a 50% chance of realizing 40% by luck...

Account up +46,9% since beginning of 2004

... congratulations. An outstanding performance. Do you mind disclosing the general gist of your style? It's usually helpful to try and figure out how much of it was the right wind and how much of it was the right seamanship. If you trade relative value or from the short side, I would...

    Oil futures question

Seth, I am using RJ O thru Tradestation. They keep screwing up my trade reports though whenever I trade the eminy.

    Oil futures question

Hoping somebody might know the answer to this. The NYMEX crude miny contract has an expiration date, a termination date and a notice date. Is termination = when the contract stops trading & notice = when you give notice as to physical delivery. Since to my knowledge, the e-miny is a...

What is the Federal Reserve's rationale for such low rates?

There is one other side effect of global reflation ... which is that it pumps a lot of liquidity first into speculative capital markets. The tremendous growth of the hedge fund industry and the revival of online trading are, I think signs of this.

    250K enough to trade with?

if you take the number of posted Jan results that follow on this thread and divide that by the number of views on my xls file, you should get a reasonable estimate of the number of ppl here on ET who actually trade.

    250K enough to trade with?

Okay - I like this idea. Maybe I can encourage others to post their Jan trades by posting my own. I think that would be very educational.

    Trading the Large account

If my memory serves me, Livermore had quite a good time trading sugar. Anyway, futures have been around for ages. Just pick up a copy of Gann's "How to make profits in commodities" for data that goes way back .... think before the civil war :)

would you give it all up to be super rich ??

It's a path dependant question. If your life so far has sucked - IRS garnishing your pay, ex-wife needs alimony, kids hate you, then sure, it's a no brainer. If your life so far is good, then it's a gamble. Also, it depends on how old you are. Basically you are going to be reborn rich...

... should be placed where your thesis for entering a trade is wrong. They should preferably be placed at a price (and time of day) not easy for the market to reach. Otherwise your thesis might repeatedly fall victim to random noise, the result of which is you end up being a collector of stop...

    Anyone read the Economist??

The Economist is certainly more for intellectual stimulation than anything else. But I personally find that while I gain nothing of tradable value from the Economist, the articles are thought provoking, succint and daring - three things that keep my mind sharp for trading. of course, if...

But the edge is for the life??

I think it depends on whether markets are structurally stable or whether the underlying structure shifts. Based on my own research, I am convinced of the latter. The strength of auto-correlation in the S&P for instance has diminished greatly in quality from 1960s to 1990s. Simple trend...
