    Housing Rolling Along 2

This argument has been advanced by the real estate ecosystem that makes money off of transaction volume. The argument was the answer to the objections of the unsophisticated when they mentioned that the property they were considering was underwater as a rental, and would be underwater for the...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

I dont know how the stats were compiled but its pretty clear that in many areas price versus income is completly off the chart historically. Moreover, the ownership is not distributed uniformly and clusters in low price to earnings areas. I've made my play - cashing out of most of my...

Packaging yourself for a life after trading fulltime

Actually equities can be very good ... Once you figure out how to do it profitably it becomes a type of semi-robotic thing where you are employing a basket of strategies and deciding if they are applicable for the current situation. If you like trading then it can be a decent job: however...

Disqualified from a job because of a book I didn’t read

I would simply avoid puzzle interviews. If someone starts in with one of these I would give them this response: stand up, shake their hand firmly, smile and stare them straight in the eyes and say "thank you for your time but I dont think I am the right person for this particular organization."...

Are you one of the best in your field?

Here is an idea .... If you really want anyone to listen to you try posting intelligent arguments devoid of a lot of vulgar language. These types of posts sound like something on a yahoo message board and add nothing to the discussion in my opinion ......

Are you one of the best in your field?

Well, if you look out far enough, just a lot of noise...... While I agree with you that this is a productive way to look at price movement there are also a couple of important points that you left out . Markets can exhibit particular types of behaviour ... but they rarely persist...

Disqualified from a job because of a book I didn’t read

Probably why we were usually needed to do things that the internal engineering groups could not ...... Most of the time corporate would give us projects and tell us point blank that either the engineering group that had the project was too difficult to work with and was not making progress...

Disqualified from a job because of a book I didn’t read

My firms contracted with $soft performing software work that either they could not or would not do. Often we trained their software engineers on new technologies. Soo .... I think the fact that they needed to hire us as experts signals the "value" of their interview process. ..... A lot of...

Disqualified from a job because of a book I didn’t read

Yes, well .,... I could come up with many, many books that your interviewer has probably not read ....... I realize that you probably need a job but .... you need to think about the IQ of someone that would ask you if you had read a particular book and, if not, make that the basis of their...

    China a Threat?

When I worked with a largly native chinese research group the common thread was that every one of these folks highly disliked japan - even though many of them had no direct ties to the victims. This is all a big problem for japan.

New Home Sales Fall More Than Expected

I wish I could not agree with this ... but i do. I will gladly raise a glass on my dime with my colleagues two years from now if I am wrong. In my mind the only unknown is the degree to which all this will happen: I am not expecting a disaster but I am expecting an ongoing drag on the US...

    My next motherboard

Happily running along on 64 bit linux ... no need to wait for $soft ...... I wish them the best of luck on their attempt to corner the hardware market and drive everyone into having to boot $soft OS just to get their hardware to function ... the strategy won't work .. And I am not shy about...

    Orange County, CA???

I have lived in Newport, Ranch Palos Verdes, in the foothills, and a place on alamitos bay: As far as a place to live goes I would say living on alamitos bay was the best - but not if your goal was a 24 hour party. In that case I agree that Newport would be first choice. Southern California...

Microsoft has no reason to buy opera ... its no threat. The real threat - open source - cant be bought and that is the genius of the idea ......

    Oil...

my models still see oil staying below 75 - out for the next year at least - and this has not changed since the summer. The only thing that would change this prediction would be a major international crisis of some sort .... my models show that it would be very difficult to push beyond 75 for...

How do you backup your system?

Acronis and ghost both work ..... of course on Linux backup tools are free and packaged with the distributions (Rsync etc) which also include various forms of raid support. Also, defragmentation is basically a non-issue in the ext2 and ext3 filesystems (unlike NTFS and other $soft filesystems).

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Soaring house prices and higher mortgage rates have put homeownership out of reach for more people than at any time in more than a decade. Housing affordability in October sank to its lowest levels since 1991, according to the National Association of Realtors' Affordability Index, a widely...
