If it were me building it, I would only need 6'1" to land. :D

I was thinking about it more in terms of safety factors. Your design seems like it would have a significantly lower aspect ratio than typical lightweight prop planes. The F16 overcomes this with a thrust:weight ratio close to 1.00 allowing it to takeoff in less than 1/2 mile. If you only...

Covered 2/3 of my positions today. Almost had 80% covered but then es jumped off support and missed me by a couple ticks.

Nice. That's a bit less than I expected. No prob, just curious. Figured if you were already doing a stand test on the fan setup that it would be a relatively simple thing to throw an anemometer behind it. ;) Then thrust calcs are much easier.

Besides a stress test on the fan, are you going to do a stand test for efficiency as well?

Interesting. I performed a quick estimation just from looking at the pics and the specs you've posted and then comparing with certain hovercraft fans with tested specs available. My quick calcs suggested just under 1000lbs gross thrust. But then the fans that I was comparing to were precision...

Lucrum, I noticed that you've had a target weight:hp ratio in mind for this project. Have you gone to the trouble yet of estimating weight vs thrust at various velocity, given the specs of your fan design? {edit}I would think that even an approximation of static thrust at takeoff would be...

Well, it was a horrible week last week. Was not at my computer for a couple days with many trades still open, and Murphy's Law took over. On the one hand, leaving trades unattended was pretty amateur. On the other hand, I discovered a spot where the strategy needed some adjustment to handle...

Lucrum, BTW, maybe I missed it, but what was the driver for using black walnut vs a lighter wood. I know that Balsa is used frequently in aircraft. I was under the impression that you were gaining most of your strength from the glass coating. Are you also relying on the strength of the...

Oh, I had assumed that on this aspect you wouldn't be getting as close to the F-16 dimensional specs, but it appears you are actually going to try to mimic the design more closely than I had anticipated..

Ahhh... for some reason I had imagined a straight cylindrical duct. Are you suggesting something like a 32" straight inlet, with a symmetrical taper down to about 24" exit. Or are you suggesting a longer duct that includes bends? I would assume you aren't going to use and bend in the duct so...

    Craigslist search not logical

Surprised that nobody has linked these yet... http://www.searchtempest.com/ http://www.allofcraigs.com/ Searchtempest is IMO much better than Allofcraigs. That isn't to say that it is perfect, but it is by far the most intuitive CL search site.

    Trump drops the f-bomb

Beautiful PR stunt for Trump, going after the "birther" thing. Two outcomes; 1) Obama doesn't produce the certificate and Trump blasts him for hiding the truth. 2) Obama releases it, and Trump brags for being the only guy in the world capable of getting to Obama. Either way his support...

No problem, you can be as skeptical as you'd like. But remember that I'm not claiming those hypothetical results. I only said that I have a target of 1% each day. Obviously, I don't necessarily hit that target every day. It is simply a target used for risk management purposes. I don't...

Oops, sorry hit a wrong button on my Sharpe calculation. The Sharpe is actually 7.30 for that period. But it is easier if I just include the following snapshot of the risk measures straight from IB. Feel free to pick them apart and offer advice.

Assuming this is what you're asking for. Daily cumulative return graph for first three months. Or if it is more helpful to you. Sharpe Ratio for period = 3.02

Not if you use time weighted return. If you run the IRR method then yes. TWR method accounts for account activity to give a more accurate representation when deposits are made, and doesn't count them as returns.

Lucrum, Did you consider taking a block sander to it? Followed up with some finishing epoxy, another hit with the sander, work up to like a 800 grit. Then finish it off with a nice high gloss catalyzed paint. I would think it would cut down the friction of the blades quite a bit. BTW...

Well, looks like I underestimated my trading a bit this week. I really thought I made less, until I went and did the calculations and ran the report. Still not a stellar week though. That second day was a huge disappointment; uncharacteristically bad trading. Should pay a bit more attention...
