How do people trade in the pits?

The average Joe can become a pit trader in a couple ways. If you have your own capital you can set up your own firm ( b/d) and plunk your money down at a clearing firm, take the courses that whatever exchange you want to trade on makes you take, then either buy or lease a seat. The other way is...

How do people trade in the pits?

Actually open outcry in the equity options world is pretty dead except for a very few pits. Most of the equity options business is done electronically. In the active pits, you need to understand that different month’s trade in different areas of the pit. So the guy all the way across the...

    Starting a new trading floor

I have offered to be helpful on several occasions in this thread and I ask the same question all the time. What size capital are you bringing to the table? It’s going to dictate what products you trade and in what ways you trade them. Do you have any experience in soft money deals, rebate...

    Starting a new trading floor

What products are you looking to trade and what kind of trading capital are you going to be starting with. Those are the real keys, the budget for hard/software and physical plant are meaningless without knowing what products you plan on trading and what kind of size capital you're working with...

    Starting a new trading floor

It really depends on how much capital you have to put into this, what products you want to trade and whether you're going to go after order flow business or just be a straight prop shop.

Most CEOs of companies are crooks

Again I will dissagree and ask where you got this information about what CEO's see as their "right"? How many CEO's are brought up through the ranks and how many are brought in from elsewhere? The public gets to hear about the outragous pay packages and things from a tiny % of CEO's. You...

I was kidding on the porn part, just picking up on an earlier poster. Most of the HUGE firms have their own trading floors, they're not exchanges but whole huge floors with rows of trades/sales people. ( institutional sales not retail brokers)

Don one of our JBO's is with Goldman, I am sure you have your own people check their work, so this may be moot. I highly suggest you double check all they do. Same with any JBO you may have elsewhere too.

    Starting a new trading floor

Sounds like you want to build out a desk. What products are you interested in trading? How much capital are you talking about? Sure it would be nice to start your own desk but are you only going to be a prop desk or do you plan on getting customer order flow? The biggest desks all have huge...
