Government losing control of suppressed technology, time to invest.

Yet, there's a youtube video.... The Conspiracy must be omnipotent and incompetent at the same time.

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

I disagree with this. I'd argue that there are some long-run alpha that can be captured and have large capacities. They exist because of economic motivations (ie, equity/credit risk premiums). They are also necessarily low performing (maybe ~0.25-0.5 sharpe net of costs over cycles). Then...

College Freshman just looking for someone to point me in the right direction please.

I'm sorry but what does this have to do with getting a feel for the business. 99% of the business, the front-office part of it, even the trading part of it, has little in common with this type of format.

How about get an education in a friend that will allow you to earn money - and become the master of that field.

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

I've seen too many traders and firms that went through the "eh, I got $xxxxMM in AUM, my clients love me, and my alpha is real; I'm happy keeping it at this level", and then face the inevitable alpha decay - at which time they wish they grew while they could to survive the times when they...

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

The industry has a buy side and a sell side; ET has those who see through Jack Hershey in about 2 seconds flat, and those who don't

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

ET's Jack Hershey at least has the decency of admitting in the previous page that he's not the John Hershey of wharton's faculty (who, as you can see from the bio, is not a trader).

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

I'm not sure managing you own net worth and the money of trusted and cherished friends and family for your own financial survival is low stress. I'd argue that without a goal to grow beyond that, it's reckless.

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

In case anyone hasn't caught on, this is complete, incoherent, nonsense. It's just nouns strung together with bits of random verbs. What video?

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

It really doesn't work like that. Investors and institutions do not track you down; It's the other way around - you have to track them down. Finally, and you can thank Madoff and his types for this - it's harder than ever to raise money these days. The minimum threshold of AUM and length of...

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

I'm pretty sure you don't care for my advice; That's fine - I probably wouldn't either if I were in your shoes. Just one thing though, be vigilant about "inspirational" stories - especially considering who's telling them. For one thing - beware of these achievements that don't actually sound...

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

Are you claiming you are John Hershey? The Anheuser-Busch Professor of Management Science? Now, I happen to have spent some time at wharton. You are definitively not that Jack Hershey. Or you meant this to be a joke? If so, it's kind of funny.

Equity traders face worst year since 2006

By ET logic, shouldn't banks be raking it in because of HFT/QE/unicorn-power?

What happened to that JPM thread

    What happened to that JPM thread that was in the career section? There were content on the pay practices in the industry I wanted to quote for another thread - and see that it's no longer in my history or anywhere in that section. Sorry if there's an obvious answer as to how to find it;

... at a good (or at least well connected school). It may sound elitest, but the reality is that a MBA from iowa state will do you little good except deplete your savings and pile on debt. Luck is the sufficient and necessary condition. Do it for the money. There's no shame in it...

Oh okay. Absolutely agree. "Trader" is in fact not really a role, but a collection of roles and sometime just historic legacies.

We can throw in asset managers, insurance pools, pensions/consultants, central bank/sovereign wealth funds - that about covers it?

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

This is not true outside of equities. Most flow desks at banks, for example, do not auto trade when the sizes are above a certain threshold. Nor do most funds use algos at a level above mere execution.

How to work in a bank/or botique/or firm with no experience

Forget everything else. Work on getting this done. If you transfer to stanford, then the game changes. You'll be part of the banks/funds recruitment process. If you stay at ohio state, you can either (1) network like hell and hope to get real lucky, or (2) find something else to do. CFA...
