If you think that trying to trade a system with risk/reward of 3/1 seems hard; try trading a system that has risk/reward of 1/1. I sometimes trade a system that is a scalping system and you risk 2pts to make 2pts. That kind of system needs a high winning percentage to be successful.
What percentage of your trading stake is $362.50. Assuming that your risk is 1% of your account then we must conclude that the trading account needed to trade this mechanical ES system is at least $36,250.
Percent risk (money management) should also be a part of your trading system.
Surf, indices put in a reversal yesterday. Aren't you considering taking some profits on some of the long positions. What percentage of your profits are you willing to risk?
I see Prem as both an indicator and a definition.
By definition ... Prem = futures - cash.
As an indicator we can read Prem as a timing tool to enter/exit a position in the market. It is an indication of the relationship between cash and futures.
Okay, let's define risk and reward: (layman's terms)
Risk is calculated as the total amount of dollars lost when total position is stopped out for a loss.
Reward is calculated as the total amount of dollars gained when total position is closed.
I think that I would have to agree ... that in reality I find that most of my trades do not reach their expected profit target. Therefore when an expected profit target is 3 to 1, actual trades result in 2 to 1 or even 1 to 1.
Realizing this fact is not reason enough to discard the trading...
You never said how much money it takes to trade this system... $5,000 ... $10,000 ... $20,000.
You may have a great system, but if I only have $5,000 I wouldn't feel comfortable risking ($1000) 20 percent of my account.
:D
Are there any posters who have gone to the above mentioned seminars? Are they informative hype only, or do they give sound practical tools to help with trading?
Inquiring minds want to know. :) :p
Has anybody every used RT TRADER or RT TRADER PRO by NAQ. While searching for data providers I came across their website at www.naq.com. I don't work for them, nor am I trying to promote them. I just want to know if they're any good.
Great advice Ditch.
Stability of the platform and low commissions should be the main issues choosing a broker ... not daytrading margins.
Letting the daytrading margins be an issue is a sign of trouble. It shows that the trader doesn't respect risk. The trader may have an...
I've heard (from this message board) that quote.com has reliability issues. I've also tried DTN and Esignal side-by-side and I chose to Esignal for it speed. I don't want to sacrifice speed or reliability.
