Trying to make it on my own

"Men who can both be right and sit tight are uncommon." It's simple to employ a stop that will get you out with most of your profits or a small loss when a position has gone 'too far' against you. Once that stop is hit, re-enter when the trend is back on your side. Yes, you will forfiet a...

    The Patient Trader's journal

Be careful with this, you are trading correllated markets. I went long crude and the s&p 500 a day that they tanked. It was upsetting to say the least.

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

Damn... another issues is from what I've seen and heard it sounds like the mobile apps just don't have the tools I'd need to feel comfortable trading. I have built custom indicators to assist me trade. I don't think I'll be able to use these on a mobile platform anytime soon from what I see.

Fixed percent risk. It is one of the better money/risk managment styles you can use.

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

I have thought about doing that. If I do I'll have to cut back size to 1-2 contracts at the most. I know the power of not watching the market, it's responsible for my +5k nights. Guess it's time to open an account with IB. Can you view depth of market and obtain tick/time based charts on...

    ES Trend Following

The trend is whatever you define it to be. Once you eliminate your personal filters, you will realize that no matter what time frame you use, you are still just looking at lines on a paper. I see plenty opportunties for trend following in the indexes every week. Trend following is one of the...

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

So... I've been trading for 32 days straight, only ESU/Z1. I'm really upset as I am very time constrained as far as how much I can watch the market. This might be the reason I'm having trouble getting past the 20k equity high I made early on in this journal. I'm @ 18k as of today. Account...

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

Day 8 Broken rules + refusing to take a loss + triple down (15 contracts) + not enough sleep = -7.5k and closing journal indefinitely. I would keep trading, however, I can't keep up with the 18-20 hr days...

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

Day 6 Could have had a +2k day, but had to go to bed so I can operate with half my brain at my peas and beans salary day job... oh well. Lost money due to not being able to trade, DO NOT CONFUSE WITH RISK MANAGEMENT.

Personal Journey - The Goal is Survival

My 2 cents to guide you (pretty much echos everyone else): Method (0-10%) = Doesn't matter much. Every good trader finds their own method that suits his style. If you want to trade fundamentals or technicals thats fine. I have seen/read about people doing well with both. Risk managment...

Lescor: It's too bad, you should have let me join your group. You would be able to say (in the near future) that you know one profitable futures trader. But DAMN THESE MARKETS ARE SO EFFICIENT.... The faster you stop thinking that the efficiency of markets will prevent you from making money...

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

The only way I'm doing this is 'being careful.' Thanks for the reminder! These are not single trades. On day 3, I made 11 trades. 2 winners out of those 11. Take a look at the completed orders tab in the screen shots. There were 52 completed orders, on 5 lots thats 10 trades+! I trade more...

Journal of index futures trading [Part 2]

Yo, FullAutoTrading and PocketChange: I'll dedicate this thread to you two who think trading has to be done by a super complex and *cough* forward/back-tested (millions of times) using randomly generated curve fit algo's. Shame on you especially FullAutoTrading Tom. I guess I'm some prodigal...
