Beneficial Margin Treatment for Cash-Settled Index Options

I would really like to understand what has changed with the recent announcement LOL The CBOE regulatory document from 2015 is very clear. The first paragraph says: On November 18, 2015, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved a customer strategy based margin rule proposal by the...

Buying private Twitter (now X Corp) stocks

Yeah, good luck with that... Musk is a first-class scumbag who literally wants to control the world, and thinks he can do that because he has a lot of money. That's why he bought Twitter, and in case you haven't notied, he is slowly destroying the company. I wouldn't touch that garbage with a...

Beneficial Margin Treatment for Cash-Settled Index Options

This is very interesting... But the CBOE has allowed this type of covered call treatment since 2015. See the attached documents. The press release suggests that something has changed, but it's not clear what. The regulatory guidance published in 2015 allows brokers to treat short index calls...

What is the max risk on a straddle???

If you sell a call and put at the same strike price, that is a straddle. When you sell a straddle, you are betting against volatility. You make money if the stock does not move very much. You want the stock to just sit there and do nothing, so that both the put and the call expire worthless, and...

FTX Bankruptcy Trade Mints 200% Windfall and Sparks Legal Battle

Yes, it means getting back the value at the time when all the assets were frozen by the courts and the SEC. This has been discussed extensively in other threads. That is how a bankruptcy works, in the US and many other countries. FTX had Bitcoin. It was sold off and converted into fiat money as...

    Break even calculation question

This answer is limited in scope to US federal tax law. Your broker probably has a function within your account that allows you to choose which shares you are selling. This is sometimes referred to by accountants as specific identification. Your broker may use a different expression, such as lot...

Idea in extracting the title of an article?

Would not have this problem if he had properly named the files when he saved them. We need an app you can install on your Windows box that will force you to name files in compliance with a strict, user-defined file naming convention, i.e., stops you from saving the file unless you rename it in...

    Walgreens Probability of Bankruptcy

I get prescriptions at Walgreens. I have never been told that I can't pay cash, for prescriptions or any other product. Are you talking about some other country? I do find it offensive that they advertise prices on the shelves that are only applicable if you use their loyalty card, which of...

Tik tok ban. Never going to happen!!

Based on my very superficial reading of the news on this... The proposed legislation involves at least two different things, if ByteDance does not divest itself of Tik Tok: (1) App stores will be prohibited from offering the app as a download; and (2) Internet service providers will be...

Idea in extracting the title of an article?

That was my first thought, that maybe the metadata, or file properties, would contain the title. And PDF properties does indeed contain a field called title. But it many, many cases, the data in that field is completely unrelated to the title of the paper. There is no standard across academia...

Idea in extracting the title of an article?

This may be a good example of the current limits of artificial intelligence... I don't think there is a reliable way to identify the title of a research paper without actually opening the file and using human reasoning. There are variables such as a subtitle, and the title of the journal...

vertical credit spreads or selling CSPs and CCs

There's no meaningful answer to that question. Depends on many, many variables. Risk tolerance is one of them. The risk profile on covered calls and cash-secured puts is very different from a vertical spread. But the big difference is capital. Covered calls and cash-secured puts require a lot...

Nobody knows how convertible bonds work

Many convertible bonds pay a fixed rate of interest, or a variable rate (e.g., some treasury benchmark plus a certain amount). The yield on an individual bond is going to be more stable and consistent than any ETF.

Nobody knows how convertible bonds work

I think in some cases, there may be some opportunities, even for retail traders, once the bonds have been trading for a while. They have an embedded call option. And some may be attractive as a long-term buy-and-hold investment. But I haven't found one that I really like yet LOL
