    Questions for experienced ES daytraders?

mini contracts, huge losses. its amazing how quickly those things destroy wealth. 1 point = $50 and there are 2157 of them . You just a single contract an then a minute later it shows -$250

why don''t people just sell options instead of trading minis?

It would almost seem like instead of going long or short minis you should just sell a put/call instead...at least you get a nice cushion from the premium if you're wrong initially. the data shows 90% of traders fail, most regardless of duration. Peopel really suck at timing the market, on all...

Do you make decisions based on the number of contracts or a specific dollar amount to invest ?

always minimize fees. buying SPY options instead of SPX almost always screams 'noob'

    Straddles, are they ever profitable?

the inverse etf method is effective because the inverse ETF will always make a new low before the underling index makes a new high.I It doesn't even have to be leveraged.

Is leveraging an account with deep ITM calls superior to using cash from your broker?

it's a myth that low volume options are not liquid. I can get filled perfectly on low trade option even for very small and obscure etfs (20 contracts or more)

Is leveraging an account with deep ITM calls superior to using cash from your broker?

so many things wrong with this thread. unless you have interative broker's low marging rates, it' almost always better to buy deep in the money calls to double your delta than pay huge fees

Why do so many ppl trade SPX and SPY options instead of ES

the open interest for SPY and SPX options is much much greater than ES. why. ES seems better: it trades 24/5 . it is bigger than SPY which means less commissions

    Defending Put Credit Spreads

they decay pretty fast though. you would need a way to make it profitable after taking into account decay

    Defending Put Credit Spreads

Don;t trade spreads on SPY. Instead, sell a single ES put worth 4 points to collect the $200. That will save you lots of $ in commissions fees, ES trades all day, and it's further OTM . OR maybe sell SPX. Spreads tend to be a bad idea becase

what is going on with weekly IVs

If there is no skew then deltas and probabilities can be interchanged, but the skew makes the implied probabilities abnormally high (based on historical data). Ppl underestimate how quickly the skew grows in panics. When that happens the normal distirbuton goes out the window. People who use...

what is going on with weekly IVs

How is it possible for weekly ES puts to have such a high IV...i'm seeing implied voaialtiy of over 45, which is more than even amazon.com and facebook Is this a typo. The 1935 put is a 9% decline ..and it's trading at a large amount. The 12-day ones are also crazy, but the delta on the weeklies...

Who whudda guessed 'safe' treasury bonds more volatile than the SPX

UB has a size of $185k, which is pretty big. Today it fell from 188 to 184, a loss of $4k for anyone who was long. The distributions of the two are slightly different. They both have fat tails, but the ES fat tail is bigger. But UB has more volatility on a day-to-day basis than ES. I've always...

When Danger Lurks In Front of Cash Secured Puts

How far in the money is the 'ITM' put? and how long the duration? I read that selling monthly and weekly ATM puts gives good results. I have seen much less literature on ITM puts though.
