In which strategy, You buy a stock, sell a call and buy a put of the same strike?

Not talking about the arb. Still there are situations where retail traders would trade conversions or reversals. Here's an example. You short a stock and buy a call to protect the upside, so you are long the synthetic put. Sometime later, your broker notifies you that your short stock is...

    SPX iron condor trade

He's got 6 weeks to go until AUG expiration, not just one week, and he's nervous. Adjust that OTM put side of he condor until you can sleep with the risk. If you wake up tomorrow and the S&P is 666 (again) and you take the full hit, will that ruin your morning or your whole month (or...

    Ratio Spread Question

If you put the spread on 15 times for a .43 credit, you pulled in $645. Spending $300 or so to buy the 42p gives you a butterfly for less than free. Below 42 or above 48 your max "loss" is still a credit. In between 42 and 48 you get the white meat. Whats the problem? Maybe close half of...

    looking for solicited advice

There are many more things you could do (beyond the three things you mentioned) when faced with the happy problem of having long calls moving in your favor. Another possibility is selling half as many itm calls, e.g. at the 26 strike to create a backspread with less-than-zero risk. You...

    Ratio Spread Question

    1) Would you leg into a riskless fly (buy back the 42 strike) and take a riskless 1/3 the current open p/l of the trade for the chance of a 7x payoff if the underlying goes out at the 45 strike? Sure, offstrike flies are an excellent way to simulate much of the behavior of a ratio spread and...

    Dollar Index Options

There are the NYBOT/ICE futures and options: USDX. If you only have access to stocks and stock options, the PowerShares UUP (bull) and UDN (bear) funds come to mind, although check the liquidity first, might be rather thin. You can also trade the CurrencyShares stuff: FXB (british pound...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

The US gov't will raise the capital gains taxes and possibly muck with 60/40, but they will not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Realize that there are people with far more at stake in this arena than any of us. Any hint of this actually coming to fruition and you will see smart...

Ninja Trader & zenfire ES Futures Advice

With Mirus you can choose Dorman or Rosenthal Collins Group to clear. You can also trade with Dorman directly and not use any introducing broker, but the commissions and day margin may not be as favorable as with Mirus.

Tom is transferring 4,653,400 shares to TD. He did quite well yes. The Reporting Person is deemed to beneficially own 4,653,400 shares of Common Stock (“Subject Shares”), which includes 4,000 shares of Common Stock owned individually, 4,411,760 shares held by the Tom Sosnoff...

Yes but of these, you can only trade options on ES, NQ and CL. Also TOS has no bond futures (ZB) as of yet.

    thinkorswim acquired by ameritrade.

TOS is surprisingly weak in futures options, wouldn't you say? AFAIK they offer only ES AND NQ and, within the last couple of weeks, they added CL (crude) and that is all. I can't see this acquisition strengthening this area, but I may be very wrong.

There may also be regulatory risk with the new Congress. They may feel that these inverse ETF's are short instruments in disguise, etc. God knows what they will do.
