    S&P 500 looking very toppy

It closed below the 10-day simple moving average yesterday. Today we have another 10 point drop. This is what I call waiting for a signal... -Raystonn

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

These are different ports on the same machine. The machine (likely a router/firewall) still must accept all traffic and sort it out. Every millisecond spent routing useless back-fill and chart data is a millisecond not spent routing an order or fill confirmation. They need the non-critical...

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

Ah, you meant clearing your browser's cache. Yes that's simple. You must be using the web-based TWS. I have always used the stand-alone version. It keeps Internet Exporer out of the TWS process, which can help improve stability. -Raystonn

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

I haven't fully explored TWS, so I'm unsure what you did when you say you cleared your cache. I would recommend a reinstallation of TWS to be sure you didn't hose anything. I'm still getting market data and things appear to be working normally again. But I'm not quitting and restarting to...

Is IB making our orders & quotes compete with back-fill/charting bandwidth?

It would appear that the back-fill and charting features, which are bandwidth-intensive, share the same communications pipeline as our quotes and trade activities. That means that our trades, fill notifications, and quotes are competing with the back-fill and charting requests to get through in...

    Poll! What Do YOU Think?

The difference is that if you were to look at the markets long term you would see this: while it is fully possible that any particular price level will never be seen again after the price rises above it, it is very unlikely, if not impossible, that a price level will never be seen again after...

    Poll! What Do YOU Think?

How about adding another choice to the poll: "I don't guess. I let the market tell me which way it's going." -Raystonn

    Intraday vs Daily bars

There is no "edge" in the publicly-disclosed technical analysis methods for both intraday and daily time periods. Thus, both are equally poor. -Raystonn

    S&P 500 looking very toppy

I have to agree with your analysis. The overall trend is still up. I expect no serious corrections until the cash S&P closes below its 10-day simple moving average. The 1st of the month was a good buying opportunity. I suspect we will see another of those shortly on fears of a double top...

    S&P 500 looking very toppy

Some will see this as a double top. Probabilities are high that we will see at least a short term consolidation about now. However, keep in mind that high does not mean 100%. -Raystonn

    Scalping - how do I..........?

Actually, there is. You take a look at the number of orders currently sitting at your intended limit price when you decide to place your pretend order. If the price reaches your limit price and that number of orders is filled (check the volume at that price) then you can assume your orders...

    Midnight rally

It would seem that, at whatever time the market drops, you always indicate that you were out of the market until that time. I put forth that the midnight rally crowd, previously defined as those who buy near (but prior to) the market close are currently very much underwater. -Raystonn

    E-mini protection using puts

Please note that the above information applies to options that expire the same month as the underlying futures contract only. -Raystonn

    E-mini protection using puts

When an ES options is exercised, an actual ES contract is not delivered. The cash value of the underlying ES contract is instead delivered. That is, delivery is cash for ES futures as well as options on ES futures. You will need to liquidate your futures contract position yourself when the...

    What is wrong with IB

Pismo, a bucket shop is a business pretending to be a broker that does not forward your trades to an exchange, instead taking the other side of your trade. They profit when you lose. Interactive Brokers is definately not a bucket shop. All orders that are native to an exchange are sent to...

    What is wrong with IB

I have been a happy client of Interactive Brokers for a few years now. Yes, I have some suggestions for improvement, but anyone with a brain should be able to come up with a few for any broker. -Raystonn

Not always. You must also execute well and market yourself. But generally, yes. I'd have to disagree there. He is not the best, nor the most innovative, in his field. -Raystonn

    S&P 500 looking very toppy

It doesn't really matter. They're about 4.00 apart from each other. What I really want is clarification on his statements regarding 1205 and 1225. He indicates he believes it will tank now at 1205, but then he indicates he believes it will go to 1225 first. I'm just trying to understand his...
