    covered options

You are not the only covered call writer out there. Honestly I wish there were not as many as there are. It's a very good strategy when properly employed.

    Market makers on CME

turdlehead, what do you mean when you state this has alot to do with implied pricing? I agree, the LMM has alot to do with CME inducing market makers to make market in the electronic grains, but how does this relate to implied prices? market makers us the implied market place to cover...

    Market makers on CME

How is that different from a 'true' market maker? Someone yells is the pit 'where's the market?' or submits an eRFQ, the 'market maker' responds by telling that trader, and the world, the price levels for which the market maker will buy and or sell that contract. I've stood in the pits and in...

    Market makers on CME

Look at the fills on what orders? Yes, they have market markers. Of course they do. Market makers are no different than paper fillers in the pits. They quote markets so others can trade. http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/files/EDOptions_ElectronicMMProgram-gm.pdf

    Market makers on CME

CME does employ market makers and they're not 'upstairs' hacking away at your orders. They're making markets to add liquidity to the marketplace. There's nothing nefarious about the business practice at all.

    buying options on expiration day

covering shorts. say you're short an option you sold for $1 and it's one day to expiry with the option trading at $.05 and is nominally out of the money. You may be better served covering than letting expire as this market is all over the place.

Why does anyone listen to Bill Gross?

He is a damn good investor, no doubt about it, but he also talks his book and has no qualms about taking bonds higher so he can get out. He seems to call the inverse to tops and bottoms very well. If he's on CNBC talking about buying bonds, I'd fade it and get short 'cause he's talking the...

Does anyone have a resource for all of the standard trading algorithm definitions? I can understand VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price) but how do they come up with that and what are all the others about (Slicer?, etc).

CME threatens to fine me $2000

I agree with you Bernard. This is a bad policy and will limit the ability of a small 'local' trader from effectively marking markets. This in itself could help explain why options on futures are struggling in the electronic market place. Not enough participants with an uneven playing field.

CME threatens to fine me $2000

This all sounds a little suspicious. Anyone using auto trading apps would run into this ratio VERY quickly and I have a hard time believing the exchange would employ a ratio that restrictive. Everyone in my group has a seat so that may be factor but none of us have bumped into this and there...

    Put sellers, welcome to hell

It's been brutal. I'm not worried about my covered calls in equities. Sure most of the stocks (all actually) have been crushed, but most should come back and I've sold ALOT of covered calls in stocks. Short puts ini ES are a b**ch and I keep having to find ways to roll out of them. Not all...
