How much profit makes daytrading worth it (as your only job)?

After reviewing whole thread I would rather stay with others, than daytrading strategies :)

    Calendar spreads

Hi ET, actually for vola I use standard services. Additionally I use functions calculating price/price underlying vs. internal price/trading range. Seems to work better than measuring volatility alone.

    Calendar spreads

HD, looks like we do almost the same, using similar weapons. I was thinking about std deviation analysis some time ago but now I use more my own TS codes to determine probability of staying in certain trading range. Simply I composed my own indicator which e.g. counts how many times during...

    Calendar spreads

HD, I agree with all above. Answering your questions: 1. I trade mostly Qs. While DIA might be considered as well, Qs have more interesting opportunities due to its nature. 2. For Qs I use butterlfys, calendar/vertical spreads so far. I also trade vertical spreads but not in Qs market...

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

Agree, looking for perfect democracy here is a time waste, so it is better to learn how to deal with non-perfect world. BTW I don`t think day trading is the only way to make money in this biz.

    Calendar spreads

HD, thanks for insights. I trade vertical bull put spreads myself - this is very good strategy because of its simplicity and risk/reward ratio but sometimes hard to open when even OTM options are overpriced resulting in low difference between ATM/OTM option. Same about iron condor. I have...

    Calendar spreads

Agree with vola skewness. Works when you initiate position, but then you have to switch to next month after expiration nad waiting for favorable volatility skew would be mistake, while holding long option. I was thinking about diagonalizing, thx. If so, can I ask why don`t you trade them now ?

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

Yes, they have. It happened to me. Now you must wait for 90 days before you can open new positions.

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

Great, bro`. That`s why you think that the country does not change ? I am not born in US neither, but while I have spent most of my life on American soil I can feel the pain. We just have agreed through the years... hoping that things will eventually get better... if not, we hoping for less...

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

And I believe it has. But it takes some time to prove it.

    Calendar spreads

I have just started trading them few months ago. Looks good so far but not extremely impressive, which seems to be realistic. This strategy needs a lot of time to see if it works. Does anybody can share somewhat longer experience ? Also, interesting combination would be mixing this...

    Opposite of covered calls?

Never... shorting option equals buying option. As long as time and volatility value is present.

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

Agree. The real power of this forum is in massive action.

PDT (pattern day trading) rule is UNAMERICAN

Absolutely agree. The problem is New America, PDT is only little rock in whole ocean. Same thing is recent blackout, but this rock is bigger. For the last ten years US has changed dramatically, this is not the same country as years ago. More to come.

    Hit by IB (and SEC)

I got no insights, but SEC position does not look really clear to me. Another SEC BS example are splits in optionable stocks. It happened to me to get switched from ATM option to ITM just because of stock split few days before expiration. If you knew about that, here is beautiful way to make...

    Hit by IB (and SEC)

When I incidentally broke the rule a month ago or so, they told me to wait few days or deposit more $. After few days account was OK, so I was trading for a month and never broke the PDT rule after that. On that day I just wanted to open new short positions in QQQ options to hedge existing long...

    Introducing broker experience

Agree, but there are some alternatives which is: guaranteed IB, foreign IB and Forex. All of them have lower capital requirements, two last ones do not have to fill with NFA.

    Did you trade today???????

I just had a lesson of new technology at work. Fortunately tested new models so no big positions were open. Just stopped believing in whole system.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

...which is the case of all "not working anymore" strategies e.g. trading systems. Trading is a business like any other, once competition in particular strategy is too high, the margins do not cover expenses.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

    Whole idea of pairs trading.
