    Buy QQQQ puts

Negative time value on index options? Won't expire worthless if you BUY it ITM? Do yourself a favor, learn how options work before you trade them, because right now you're going to set yourself up for a huge disaster if you try to play with options. Unless you're buying options so deep...

IB"security"...nearly cost me my job. awful

Yeah.. if you're a big company, you don't need to use IB to get good rates.. Other big companies that specialize in institutional accounts (like goldman sachs) will give you a good rate too.

    Thoughts on Ameritrade

Ameritrade is a ripoff unless you're doing 2000+ shares per trade. If you use IB, it's really not that bad. Minimum commission they charge you is $10 ($3 if you're under 25, but either way it's negligible), and if you don't generate $30 of commission they charge you $10 to get quotes...

IB"security"...nearly cost me my job. awful

Yep.. your own fault you didn't get the STP device.. also seems kind of odd your big company couldn't come up with $500K to use until the issue was resolved, and sat around and "lost a ton of money" because you missed an opportunity instead.

    Should you buy or rent?

that calculator is crap, it includes only a fraction of the costs of buying / renting, not to mention that people have personal preferances. Like if you own, you don't have to deal w/ a landlord, but if you rent, you don't have to make repairs etc.. There's a million more factors that go into...

Brokers that don't have T+3 settlements

What the hell? I never heard of a broker making you wait 3 days to use proceeds from sales in a margin account. To answer your question: ANY broker besides the one you're currently using is fine.

Forex Scams Are Out of Control

I don't trade stuff unless I understand it, AND know how to profit off of it. How forex works? Simple, you're trading foreign currencies, usually at extreme leverage. How to profit off of it? It has to be your FULL TIME JOB to study the forex market to profit off of it. The average joe is...

    Does anybody own a ferrari?

If you believed that an oil change costs 5K for even a minute, then you shouldn't be buying this car.

    Myth of (exponential) time decay?

I never said that real theta is linear. I said that with the theoretical example, where the option price declined by exactly 5 cents a day due to theta (which would NEVER happen in reality, even if the stock didn't move at all), then in that case it would be linear.

    Myth of (exponential) time decay?

optioncoach, depends on how you look at it. If you're looking at it purely from a theta standpoint, then it's linear if it's dropping 5 cents a day, because the 1 day theta (per share) would be 0.05, or -0.05, depending on which side you're on. Another interesting thing is that VIX options...

    Does anybody own a ferrari?

Buy a new vette instead. Negotiate the price down to invoice + 2K w/ the dealership. A 2007 vette is a lot more fun (and probably faster ;)) then a 20 year old ferrari, and it'll probably cost you a LOT less in maintenance.

    Myth of (exponential) time decay?

I write options, and have learned quite a few hard lessons. Theta DOES INCREASE the closer you get to expiration, if the option is ATM or close to the money. Obviously, if the option's only worth a nickel or less, there's going to be no theta since it's practically worthless already. Or if...

AMD sees first-quarter revenue below Wall St. consensus, stock up 3.5%?????

Most people were expecting AMD to miss.. I guess the news was that they missed by less then the amount priced in already.

    Options Portfolio Mgmt.

With the exception of a few equities, most options arn't liquid enough for you to use automated stops. You really need to watch the stock/option price and place the orders yourself.

    Option liquidity

I never said swing trading options isn't extremely profitable, it is! I said day-trading options is very difficult, because most day-traders are looking for small movements in the stock price.

    Option liquidity

If you really want to day-trade options, you need to be the market maker. Otherwise the commissions and fees (especially cancel fees) will kill you.

Bull Put Spreads - Controlled Risk/Return

if your protective part of the spread is that low (12.5), you might as well just go naked w/ it. Unless the FDA rejects DNDN's prostate cancer drug, which is highly doubtful, I don't think that stock will see 12.5 ever again.

    IB's IPO Goes Forward - Range $23-27

Yeah.. vonage is based off a shitty service that nobody really needs.. (VoIP? Gimmie a break, I can use teamspeak or something for free, and it's not that hard to set one up) IB is providing a service that will grow.. sooner or later people will realize that they're getting ripped off paying...
