    IB - data generation process

Does anyone know how serious "the delayed and missing ticks" problems are? This worries me too. :(

Do you trade other countries' stocks?

Have anyone thought of arbitrage the same stock in different exchanges? Do you think it is worth doing so? I'm not sure how to do this really? I think I can simply press buttons to buy cheaper stocks on one market, then sell it on another market. Is that as easy as I may think of, or I need...

Do you trade other countries' stocks?

How about Japan? If memory serves, it is the second largest market in the world? I expect some of the greatest stock might be here, having some of the ridiculous returns per year. :p

Do you trade other countries' stocks?

So what's the point of trading UK? From the sound of it, this tax appears to be harmful, especially for daytraders.

    Margin question

You could open a cash account, which you do not allow to loan (margin) all the time. However I suggest you opening a marign account since you can borrow money (get margin) should you wish to. You can restrict yourself to use just the cash even in a margin accout. Unless you are careless and...

    IB - SIPC & Lloyd's Insurance

Sorry, you're barking up a wrong tree. Please read carefully before criticism. No one is demanding superb low margin requirements (I think you should mean low, NOT high). What we suggest is moderate margin (with strict risk management), as opposed to conservative (with strict one).

    IB margin for stocks???

Can the margin "obtained/available for stocks/derivatives" be used on futures and options? If so, how much? The same as above or different? Say I have $1,000,000. I would like to spend max 50% of buying power on futures, ie $500k buying power. Others go for stocks. I daytrade. As the...

    IB - SIPC & Lloyd's Insurance

Could IB resolve my following problem? If IB can, I'm satisified. I do have sufficient amounts to offset even the most exceptional losses. But I don't wish to waste my fund by paying too much margin. Paying too much margin "just to protect the most extraordinary situations" is a waste. I...

    IB - SIPC & Lloyd's Insurance

First of all, thanks for the discussion. If it happens within the trading session, yes it is possible. Otherwise no as it becomes an overnight issue. However I think the positive (buying) big sharks are more worried than you and me since it is them who has huge positions. Anyway, this is...

    IB - SIPC & Lloyd's Insurance

Sorry, my explanation is not clear enough. As far as I know, the exchange standards are mostly for overnight margins. We are talking intraday margins. That is another issue, so this is a non-issue. When you intraday, you won't see a huge gap unless you are trading very illiquid markets...

How do you deal with the fractions when calculating fees and commissions? Do you charge fractions? [From the examples given in US stock, it's not. Weird!] If not, do you use rounding? Or Rounding down? Or rounding up?

    IB - SIPC & Lloyd's Insurance

Agree that auto-liquidation is a guaranteed failsafe, but who cares if it is a guaranteed failsafe? IB exisitng margin ploicy is not a guaranteed failsafe either, are you worried about it? Even if you charge 50% margin, you may go near the maintenance margin. And then the market falls...

Would you like to test TA?

I disagree. ============= 3) Price pattern will not work if others don't act on it. ============= Chart pattern is discovered by technicans first before other learners follow. At that time, few know what chart pattern is about. If it doesn't work in the first time, no one is going to follow...
