anyone use alpaca, the commission free api trading?

I used Alpaca for a few months and stopped recently. It's an okay platform but very young, so be prepared to see some mistakes. Their system didn't allow me to exit some trades by mistake, but they made up my losses because of their faulty system. I'm not a big API user and IB commissions are...

    How to get cheaper commission

I was looking at leasing an IOM seat to reduce my commissions and CME has the historical purchase prices for these seats back to 1990. Right now the seats are worth $30K, but back in 2008, it was over $500K. in 1990, the price was around $100K. Same with CME seats which was $1.5M in 2008, and...

    New Market Wizards Book

How do audit someone with 50 accounts and just shows you one account where they took risks and hit the ball out of the park? this happens ALL the time. Sorry to be a hater. i really try not to be on this forum. but this is the best explanation i have for the results for these individuals.

    New Market Wizards Book

you're right, i'm just judging the cover. the COVER contains impossible claims only a sucker can believe. I can also set up 50 accounts, fund them with $5K each, pick the best performance and claim that i'm the best trader. See, i have the statements to prove it! But i haven't read the book...

scam artists hahaha has anyone done the math on HOW incredibly wealthy these traders are right now...all billionaires now!!! before you feel the urge to tell me how these returns are not compounded...just stop and think about the most likely explanation for why no one has heard of them before...

Why is my backtest overly optimistic?

whenever your backtest is showing a sharpe ratio above 5, you have a fundamental error like look-ahead biase. overfitting usually doesn't produce a result that ridiculous.

    Trading from a Cruise Ship?

while i agree that this forum is too negative at times with lots of dumbasses, i would just offer my words of caution. The market that we're experiencing right now is very good for your style of trading. mean reversion trading is easy now...shorting short-term overextended stocks is easy money...

Data science question: best or simplest ML/DL/NN approach

agreed. linear regression is powerful and generalized enough to work well in most cases.

Taleb vs Assness on tail hedging and risk parity

yeah Taleb wasn't just mechanically buying vol, he was picking his spots. but even experts like him and his associates couldn't make money over the long run. you just lose less than if you mechanically buy vol. have you seen their returns? not great at all. I'm not sure what is obvious...

    Bye bye IB, hello Schwab

you probably would never know whether you will regret the move. tough to track execution slippage you get at Schwab, but you will surely have slippage as the market makers buying those order flows are making a profit off of it. with IB limit orders, you can get commission per share down to...

The myth of letting your winners run

trend following systems = let your profit run until it goes parabolic or breaks trend mean reversion systems = take profit after reversion you need a few big wins in a trend following system. you need to avoid those few big losses in a mean reversion system

Question about my 65% win rate and 1-1.5 RR ratio

Markets are pretty efficient, just not all the time. you can make a lot of money with a 51% win rate system assuming a 1:1 RR as long as you do it often enough and are diversified. 55% win rate is gigantic. I see many traders trying to increase their win rate by being more restrictive in...

Taleb vs Assness on tail hedging and risk parity

btw, let's not talk about theory. Let's look at the numbers. Over the last 50 years, you would have lost your shirtS (probably your whole wardrobe and your wife's wardrobe) if you kept buying "cheap" options. These losses are consistent and overwhelming. that's why institutional investors...

Taleb vs Assness on tail hedging and risk parity

Assness is right on tail hedge. Taleb's theory is useless. plus he is a complete ass. saw him on a flight once acting like a spoiled brat...people who are mean to the service staff are the worst, even worse than taking a stupid and useless topic and writing 20 incomprehensible books about it.
