How much shold one risk in a single trade?

Between 0.5-2% on each trade. Depends on your risk profile and what sort of returns/drawdowns you are seeking.

Lime is good for cheap commission and low latency, but unfortunately they only offer US stocks. I don't need ultra low latency, my systems aren't too high frequency (average trade lasts several hours).

Hi atticus, Who offers 7x ? And what does "portfolio margin" mean? If I have $100k cash do I get $700k intraday buying power?? Leverage is actually not the primary concern here. If I can get access to platform that would give me access to more markets than IB with the same 4x as IB...

Hi guys, I'm running a small fund with family and friend's money and we have about $1million. I want to look into designing systems to trade markets other than the ones which IB offer. My understanding is that the big IBs like GS, MS, JPM, CS, UBS, etc, all have electronic trading...

Advice on Staring a Hedge Fund

"Guarantee" actually means capital-protected. Do you mean you will return what's left or you'll return their total investment? It doesn't matter if you don't guarantee their investment, not many funds do this. Just don't get yourself into legal trouble by offering these sorts of promises. If...

Advice on Staring a Hedge Fund

Agree that Family and Friends advisor account with IB is best, at least to start. From a client perspective its also very secure. Each client is given sole access to their own sub-account with a unique username and password.l The advisor cannot wire money in or out of the client accounts or...

IB Advisor Friends & Family account

Below is from the IB website http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/p.php?f=advisorWrapFees My understanding from this is that the fees are calculated daily, but charged quarterly/annually. I had a few questions about how the fee deduction works. 1/ What happens if you had some fees...

IB Advisor Friends & Family account

Thanks Jack. Another question for you. If a client wants to deposit/withdraw cash from his account, can he just do this without the Advisor even knowing, or does he notify the advisor of his attentions, and then the Advisor can okay the instructions? How does it work? Thanks.

    Becoming a Prop Trader?

If you already know how to trade, and can prove it ie. have a track record. Check out these ads below. Seems like ROI of 15%+ and Sharpes of 3.5+ is a goer. Though that's easier said than done, especially the latter. http://jobs.efinancialcareers.com/job-4000000000496959.htm...

WallStreet - Money Never Sleeps - comments

I went to an exclusive pre-screening last week. I'd probably give it a 7 out of 10 compared to 9/10 for the Classic. The sequel is less ruthless, less about business. Gekko wasn't even in the first 30mins. They tried to make it appeal to a wider audience I think. And while it was still an...

Why don't you just set a small burger stand, instead of daytrading?

How much size is too much?

I daytrade stocks, and my universe are only those tickers with $50m daily liquidity. My trading size is only $100k or so but I always buy on open. I figure as long as there is more than $2mil opening liquidity then my $100k should be okay. Of course these are just approximations.
