    RIG Dividend questions

Thanks, I get it now. Glad I sold the darn things Monday morning for $10.40 and don't have to deal with this. Because owning a contract that now moves in response to 47 shares would seem to be a negative in regards to delta and leverage factors. I think it would have made more sense to...

    RIG Dividend questions

Thanks for the info. The pricing in this document states there is no change to the strike price or number of contracts. The multiplier also stays at 100. The document states the formula for pricing a Jan 08 Call option is: GWK = .47 (RIG) + 22.46 + cash in lieu of .57 RIG shares. So if one...

    RIG Dividend questions

I was long two GSF Jan. 80 call contracts that I sold Monday morning, Nov 26th @ 10.40 (not even knowing about a merger, just sold to take profits). Anyone know what would have happened if I didn't sell them? What would I own now?

Data feed/ DOM software for IB

DOM is an acronym for "Depth Of Market", which is basically just a window in a software package that displays Level II market data.

What a bunch of crap. Do not post your spam here, it's not welcome. Nobody asked for info relating to the junk you posted (stock mastery, e-minis, lessons taught in school, etc) and these websites you posted are nothing but a load of marketing crap. Take your spam elsewhere.

Thanks for the help. Especially the CBOE Excel page, exactly what I was asking about.

    Starting out trading options

Those were good questions that did not seem to get answered here. I, too, am interested in what experts would say is the minimum stock volume and minimum daily option volume to look for when considering options on equities. Where does one even find the average daily option volume for equities?

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

You guys have really strayed from the original topic of this thread. I did not intend this to be a discussion on whether retail traders should engage in trading options, or if it's appropriate to trade options from the angle of a speculator vs. hedging. Please start a new thread if you care to...

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

I see your point. It basically comes down to how well one can forecast the direction vols are headed. Which by definition is a simple concept, but aint easy.

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

Nothing works 100% of the time. Vic got burned because he assumed low vols were an indication of stability in the market, thus selling otm puts seemed like a good trade. Of course he can't expect to win every time, nor should he. But what about put buyers now? Those books tell you to avoid...

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

I have to disagree. That's what the floor traders are hoping you believe. But if that were really true, then you could make a bundle because the top and bottom IV's would be ripe for attack if they indeed offered "<i>very little predictive-power </i>" My point is it seems to make more sense to...

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

Yes, that's exactly my point. Very well put. I know I presented a lot of questions but I'm not really asking as much as I'm pointing out these ideas that seem to make sense from, as you say, "<i>a pure intuitive standpoint</i>".

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

My point is not what direction. I'm making the assumption that you have some idea as to which direction you feel the underlying will move. In other words I assume you have some bias as to which way it's future direction will be, be it from technical analysis or through stock screening, etc...

Buying Options w/High Implied Volatility, Not Good. But What If...

First off, sorry about the long post. I needed to get my point across and did so as briefly as possible. I think/hope you'll find my comments interesting. I've read many times how an Option Trader would be better off buying options when implied volatility is low, because it means they're...

    Spread Hacker

OK, I know I said I'm outa here but look, I'm not upset and I didn't mean to come off as "<i>dumping on a very nice tool.</i>" And it's not what <i><b>I want,</b></i> it's what option traders want (or would seem to want) which is a flexible tool to use to extrapolate results of a desired...

I was just responding to the thread and relaying what my experience with SH was. I thought that's what these threads are for, to discuss software and read other peoples likes/dislikes. You're the one making a big deal about it with the whole world of trading... bla bla bla. I never said anything...

    Selling Optionvue 5 , (Ver 1.84)

I didn't say "free coupon" I said a "free trial" coupon. So let me make sure I understand your offer. After taking your advice and reading it again, anyone who sends you PM will be able to acquire OptionVue software (which the OP offered for $1k and sells for about $2k) for free? I'm...

Why is it I suddenly feel like I need to assume a defensive posture? All I did was state the obvious to the uninformed that its a one-sided tool and stated what the limitations are. Oh yeah, I also reported the poor support I received from a rep. via chat/help. I didn't think chiming in with...
