    trading es & slippage

Sometimes yes, and sometimes not. All depends on time of day, volatility in the market, type of setup, etc. Slippage would be at most .50. You can always use a limit order 1 tick outside the bid/ask. In any event, watch the "tape." You see 100,200,500 size executions everyday...

How is it possible for IB to do this to me.

Look for the phrase "Direct Access." Invariably, all FCMs say this. It's cheaper (more effecient) for a broker to send the order through Globex's API than to build a redundant system that holds orders on their own proprietary servers for order types that Globex natively accepts. Check this...

Had to correct this part. Sorry for any confusion.

How is it possible for IB to do this to me.

NQ & YM trades on Globex. Limit orders are native Globex orders. Therefore they sit in Globex and not on IB's systems. Globex operates on a FIFO algorithm. In the future, if you want to increase the likelihood of executing a Limit order on Globex, set your limit on the ask if buying, on the bid...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Look, for a minute there I was going to waste time proving my point. You know, the ego thing sparked in me. But then I remembered your religious postings and views in "those other threads" and realized it would be a lesson in futility. I'd like to say you can seperate a person from their...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

MMmm... pre-market? The convo is about daytrading and margins well below SPAN minimums. Which only kick in during RTH.

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Yeah? Whatever. Anyone who has been through the major events knows what I'm talking about. Take the suprise fed action a few years ago. The market was moving before it was widely disseminated. Daytraders who don't use stops, be it mental or hard, will die long before rare major market moving...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Thanks. Good of the firm to be proactive and prudent by putting the suspension on and taking it off quickly. Last time, it lasted for 6 weeks. That seemed a bit excessive. BTW, TWS is working out better than ever. Keep up the good work.

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

[/b] News doesn't break that way. Anyone who has been trading for years would know that. Let's say the news event you described happened above. What happens many days if not weeks ahead is the rumor that tensions will escalate. Then one day the event actually happens. Since news does NOT...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Look at the margin page, click futures tab, scroll down to the globex section, and you'll see that, for instance, ES daytrade margin is 2250init/1800maint. Tuesday and yesterday it read that intraday was SPAN minimums.

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

It appears that IB has relaxed the suspension: http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/marginRequirements/margin.php?ib_entity=llc At least their margin page says so for ES, ER2 & NQ. The homepage still has the ticker that says the suspension is still on. We'll see when...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Lock limit means you can't sell below the limit. And the first tier of lock limit only lasts for 10 mins. But markets don't gap to lock limit. What's more, we're talking about intraday trading - not holding overnight were almost all lock limits have occured. Lastly, OEC disallows reduced...

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

No smarty pants, it's 50% as in 50% of SPAN margins. Read the post again. Sheesh.

Open E Cry raises ES margins from $500 to $2250

Very true. IB only doubled the margin. OEC quadrupled it. But let's see who relaxes it sooner. Vix will scale back very quickly from here.

Congrats on IB for raising the margins

All good. Just be sure to undue that in a few days and not 5 weeks later like last year. At most a week is all that is necessary. Also, nice of them to warn of this early in the morning before US open.
