    Need Help w/ System Resources

I am currently running Windows 98 and constantly run low on system resources (< 4% available). Can one of the software gurus tell me which of the following programs that come up under task manager can be stopped to free up resources? They are: Rnaapp Msmsgs Pdesk Em_exec Loadqm Cpqeadm...

    Holding positions overnight

I mostly swingtrade and was burned Friday because I was holding FLEX short. Daytrading eliminates most of this risk. I agree with previous posts that position size needs managed, but also feel somewhat better holding a short position overnight. You can find examples of some stocks gapping up...

    Looking for better trading tools!

I need some assistance from the more experienced traders about charting software and a few other items. I've assembled a group of services that I use daily, but feel that there must be better options or more complete services out there. My current set-up is: Brokers: Datek - Used for...

    What???

Question I posed to Starband: I am interested in your Starband product. My primary application will be for day trading. I need to know all aspects about the reliability of this service since I will be receiving streaming real-time data. I am not able to tolerate service interruptions or...

    My dear brothers...OBTAINING AN EDGE

I suspect that you won't be given direct answers to your question, not because an edge doesn't exist, but because most, if not all, traders have paid dearly for this knowledge in terms of actual $$. Now you ask for it for free. Losing money really drives knowledge home. Now here's my...

Why do patterns fail?-makes no sense

neo, Rather than bemoan all the faliure patterns, take advantage of them. Place buy/sell limits 4-5% beyond resistance and catch them. Even if it isn't a failed pattern, your entry point allows for a low loss escape. Good Luck and Big Profits,

    Previous Close as Support/Resistance

hapaboy, Don't get caught up in the trap of "discovering" a strategy and then finding charts that validate it! Remember this is a probability game and you could always find a chart or two that fits perfectly. Also, be careful when you see big moves on high volume. More often than not...

    Previous Close as Support/Resistance

hapaboy, Buying/selling above the previous open/close or high/low is an old strategy and doesn't work well in the current market. If the market is strongly trending you'll look like a genius but now you'll likely get chopped to pieces. I'd recommend looking into buying/selling at %...

    Large Scale Back-Testing

Cash, Thanks for the response. By large scale, I mean backtesting "ALL" NASDAQ or NYSE stocks at the same time. I realize this requires horsepower, that's why I thought it would likely be a mainframe application from a service provider. The exporting/importing thing is something I hoped to...

    Large Scale Back-Testing

Does anyone know of any software or service providers that provide simultaneous back-testing on all NASDAQ or NYSE stocks based on setup criteria that I program? I realize that the computational power needed would likely require a mainframe type application running against a database of tens of...

Recent Books: Any Comments Master Swing and Day Trader

Good book with a few pearls of knowledge. Poorly written. Don't look for any of the important points to jump out at you, it seems like he's trying to be secretive. The set-ups are old-hat with new names. Also, while it's called "Master Swing Trader" you need to be sitting at your computer...

    Let's talk probabilities.

:p I was being facetious. There has to be favorable probabilities to stock set-ups or stocks wouldn't bounce of of S/R or follow trend lines. Also, the price one day could be multiples away from the price the next based on true randomness. I know they're there, they just need discovered...

    Let's talk probabilities.

Tony has obviously sparked quite an interest (myself included) when he posted that a stock that closed within 10% of it's high for the day had a 85% chance of having a higher high the next day. I think we all recognize that trading is a game of probabilities with traders looking for the...

My History on Elite Trader for those who care ...

I set up the same spreadsheet when Tony originally posted this probability. I also programmed the inverse of close within 10% of low. Oddly enough, I arrived at the same conclusion as you after trying historical data on many stocks. There are some obvious plays for short term trades...

    Calculating the correlation....

Hitman, I've just checked and Yahoo stills supplies historical quotes. I've down-loaded them many times into an excel spreadsheet and used the correlation function in excel to get a correlation coefficient. It's somewhat time consuming, but it's the only way I've run across.
