    my divine commedia to optionality

Following. I'm about 6 months into my own options journey; hanging in there, starting to get some traction, and also keep a journal here with all my trials and tribulations - mostly to keep snapshots of my mental state as I progress and to keep myself honest. Best wishes for good trading!

    Noob question: unrealized P&L

That seems both over-emphatic and oddly specific. Are you saying that this any different for trading any other asset class?

    Noob question: unrealized P&L

I have a rather recent screenshot, somewhere, of Liz and Jenny at TastyWorks selling an SPX spread and then buying it back just a few minutes later; the spot price was within a penny of where they entered, but they made (if I recall correctly) a couple of hundred bucks on the change in...

The Reddit geek who raked in $100,000 with 2 trades is 'taking a small break'

You did, by implication. I quote: "Do you seriously think that he never traded options before and made the money purely by luck playing two different instruments?" Except that's not what he did. He YOLOed, twice. I'll echo @gaussian : you're being envious of a fool. So you believe the...

The Reddit geek who raked in $100,000 with 2 trades is 'taking a small break'

That was the story. He supposedly learned about options by reading r/wsb; since he was doing nothing more complicated than buying puts, I see little reason to doubt it. "Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi" Comparing one of the world's sharpest investors who uses aggression as a well-considered...

Even looking at it right now, after hours, I see 0.01/0.03 for the 80 strike on the put side. $50 up the chain, you're at 5.05/5.15, or 255x assuming mid for both. 800 to 108k is only 135x, so it seems feasible.

OK, the world makes sense again. :D

The Reddit geek who raked in $100,000 with 2 trades is 'taking a small break'

Do you seriously consider risking a large amount of money that was won by pure luck to be "good trading"? I'm trying to imagine any rational scenario in which this could be true and not coming up with one. The term "market's money" allows losers to whistle past the graveyard, and I'm somewhat...

Thanks, ON. Looks like the "extreme tornado warning" is over; we're under just plain "tornado warning" now, until 11:45 EST. I've sailed through worse weather than anything this little disturbance can bring, but this living on land shit sucks. Can't reef, heave to, stream a sea anchor, or run...

Nice. We just got an extreme tornado warning in our area; "take cover now, damage to roofs, windows, etc. very likely." If you folks don't hear from me, I'll be on the Yellow Brick Road.

Thanks; I fervently hope so. I'm not used to feeling so stupid for so long... although I'm willing to keep paying that price for as long as necessary. This has been one hell of a voyage, with ALL sorts of discoveries.

How much is a good Stoploss system method worth?

Look at it a different way: "how many traders would benefit from improving their exits?" If your system captures just one extra tick per day, it could make a very large difference, to pretty well anyone. Try beta-testing it, with a reasonably-sized sample of traders that you can trust not to...

Just the $766. The max loss for buying options is the premium you've spent. "turned less than $800 into nearly $108,000 by purchasing puts on Roku stock and SPY" But yeah, it's financial porn. For every guy accidentally hitting the $100k lottery, there are thousands who are losing millions of...

$131.00 ROKU 191115 -P120/-C235/+C150 $2.00 Worked this out by myself while ROKU was crashing, and am (cautiously) jubilant about it. This turned my naked short call into a 5-point call spread, with a naked short put at 120. $799 credit on the short put, and now that short call is risk-defined...

Ah. There's a distinction between "here are some ideas that I'm willing to toss in the air" and "here is a hint about things I've actually tested and found to have positive expectancy"; it wasn't obvious which one you were doing. In the larger context of me being rather cynical (but not 100%...

This seems to make a lot of sense... :D That sounds like the plot of a perfectly good horror story. "He drew thousands of thick red lines... and now, no one knows where he is. But there have been many reports of missing cows in the area, and we have all grown suspicious of strangers and...

So there's this catch... How do I know whether I'm hearing what I'm supposed to be hearing if I don't know what I'm supposed to be hearing? (Game soundtrack. Computer-generated music AFAICT, lots of low end and drums, some ululation and other effect noises, "presence" audio, a...

:) Tom, I'd be perfectly happy to use chicken entrails if they worked. But there's a catch: the number of possible hypotheses is infinite, but our time is not. Without some method of pre-selection, it's a waste of time. But if you can demonstrate the reliability and repeatability of your method...

I just love seeing the writhing jealousy that decent writing and the ability to think rationally provokes in the abysmally stupid and the small-minded (who always herd together - perhaps a reproductive strategy?) It pisses them off no end and forces them to strain their one brain cell to come up...
